During several phone calls and one face-to-face interview inside the Marion County Jail, Bob Leonard Jr. pledged to speak up for himself in the courtroom of Allen Superior Judge Frances Gull, “because I’m innocent…because there are things that the State’s trying to suppress in this case that shows that I’m innocent”...

Leonard said he had been introduced to Shirley weeks before the explosion when he re-established contact with his half-brother after the pair had been estranged for several years.

“Mark Leonard is a jinx... everything he touches turns to crap,” said Leonard in a monitored phone call from inside the jail.

The magnitude of the Richmond Hill Explosion began to unfold for jurors this week as the trial of Bob Leonard, Jr., began in Allen County. Marion County Deputy Prosecutor Denise Robinson told the 18 members of the jury the State would lay out its case against Leonard "brick-by-brick." The first bricks were the testimony of the first firefighters to arrive on scene the night of the explosion. Jurors also heard recordings of dozens of often-frantic 911 calls that poured in to dispatched from around the city...

Jurors were ordered Friday to return to court Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. Judge Frances Gull admonished them not to read, speak about or research anything related to the trial while outside of the courtroom.

The brothers will never draw another free breath. What remains to be seen is what sentence will be imposed on Monserrat Shirley. My daughter actually worked with her before she (Shirley) had her license to practice nursing yanked by the Board. I hope Ms. Shirley also never draws a breath as a free woman ever again.

"50 years"

Not exactly:
A judge gave Shirley credit for time served, and with good behavior she may have to serve just 21 years of the 50 year sentence. If that is the case, Shirley will be 71, when she is released.

Mark Leonard, who’s already serving life without parole for his role in the deadly November 2012 explosion in the Richmond Hill subdivision, faces another trial this week...

Prosecutors said Leonard wanted to hire a hit man to kill a key witness...

Two friends of the Leonards were sentenced in the case. Gary Thompson is serving a 20-year sentence for his role in the explosion. Glenn Hults was sentenced to 1.5 years plus six months on work release.
