RLINGTON, Ind. — Court documents reveal that Patrick Scott, the neighbor and boss of missing teenager Valerie Tindall, reportedly admitted to officers that he killed the 17-year-old girl on June 7 — strangling her with a belt and then burying her in a homemade box in his backyard.

Newly released court documents reveal that officers uncovered two homemade boxes made of 2x4s and oriented strand boards during the search of Scott’s property on Tuesday. Originally a source told FOX59/CBS4 that the human remains were found in a barrel. Court documents detail that the remains were actually found in one of the buried homemade boxes.

According to the documents, an officer observed the human remains located within the box and described “instantly” spotting orange fingernails on the deceased body. Police said the fingernail color matched a photograph found on social media of Valerie Tindall posted on June 7.

Inside the second homemade box were VHS tapes and miscellaneous paperwork.

Shena Sandefur told WRTV-TV that her daughter worked for Scott and that the family trusted him.

“She and him had a bond. They were friends,” Sandefur said. “She worked for him, but she also hung out with his family. His granddaughter was her friend, and we went places with them.”

He said his wife and daughter “don’t know nothing” about the killing and told officers he strangled Valerie with a belt; a belt Scott said he continued to wear after.

Scott is being represented in court by attorney Bryan Edward Barrett of Rushville, online court records show. The next court date is a pretrial conference set for Dec. 19. A jury trial was tentatively set for April 23.

After his arrest and being read his Miranda rights, Scott allegedly told police that when he and Tindall went back to his house, Tindall was "coming on to him" in an attempt to blackmail him into buying her a car.

Scott allegedly told police Tindall was trying to seduce him and he "wasn't going to have it." Investigators claim he told them that Tindall "got carried away." According to the police report, Scott said Tindall began taking off her clothes and in an attempt to fight her off, Scott took his belt off and "put it around her neck until she quit."

She was trying to SA him so she could blackmail him into buying her a car (even though she already had one that he then went on to dispose of after "defended himself" from her advances by strangling her with his belt.) Give me a break, that is the most ridiculous excuse for murder I think I've ever heard.

What a sweet-looking teen -- trusting the guy next door as did her parents. Glad that ~man~ is in custody. Grrrr.
Valerie was accepted at a college -- exciting next step for this girl who lived in a small town -- I'm sure her parents were proud and excited about her going to college. Broadening her world.

Oh my, is he a sick person. That poor girl suffered so much and his story makes him sound even worse. I hope he never returns to society.

Seems more likely that he came on to her and she rebuffed him, making him angry. Doesn't look pre-mediated to me as the attempt to cover up evidence was sloppy. He could also be suffering from delusions.
