WOODBURN, Ind. (WFFT) - John Noble is pretty familiar with the comings and goings of everyone on Doehrman Street.

He's lived here near the woods for 30 years, and when skeletal remains were discovered nearby Sunday he had an idea who it might be.

"I figured it's from the homeless guy I guess living in the woods here," Noble said.

Someone walking through the woods discovered the skeletal remains.

It is unclear how long the remains were there.

Authorities however still aren't sure who they belong to.

The Allen County Coroner's Office spent much of the day Sunday investigating the scene.

Now they're working with the University of Indianapolis Anthropology Department to learn the identity.

Noble said two years ago there was a homeless man in the area. He hasn't seen him around lately.

He thinks the remains belong to him.

"I figured he just was out here living in the woods. My speculation is he just froze to death,"he added.

Allen County Sheriff's investigators are waiting on the forensic results to determine the exact manner of death and how long they've been there.

investigators don’t know who the skeleton – found clothed, sitting on a log, leaning against a tree – was.

The Allen County Coroner says the remains had been there six to eight months before being discovered, and the victim could have either sat down and died, or their body could have been placed in that position.
