Inconsistencies, Contradictions, & Curiosities

This article is quite a bit different to the one below as far as bones, charred wood & clothing.

Now here's a new one I just read.

Got me?

Law enforcement agencies at the state and local levels process missing person complaints, city police in large urban areas and state police in more sparsely populated areas. Procedures vary significantly from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Some have written policies, while others may follow unwritten procedures. When there is a strong suspicion of foul play, or if the case involves missing children, state and local law enforcement agencies will frequently bring the FBI into the investigation.

Curiosities:
1. Was the FBI ever brought in to this investigation? When? What happened?

2. How was 750,000 dollars spent?

3. How were the thousands of man hours spent?

4. Why did it take so long to investigate Steven Powell?

5. How does the budgeting of missing cases work?

6. How do donations get used and how are they accounted for?

7. What searches have WVC PD done for Susan in the last 2 years?

Investigations are expensive. The Kyron Horman case was at over 400k in July 2010. It topped 1.4 million in Feb of this year. http://www.kgw.com/news/local/Sheriff-to-update-latest-on-Kyron-Horman-investigation-116491183.html

I do think that the fact that the recent search at Topaz Mntn was largely volunteers was great and kept down the costs. The cost would not be as great if Josh had cooperated from day 1, IMHO.

In a story that aired Thursday morning, ABC News correspondent Abbie Boudreau said "overnight ABC News got exclusive access to the home where Josh Powell lived with his two young sons."

Inside, she said the station got a "glimpse" of what Asst. Attorney General John Long referred to in a Pierce County, Wash. courtroom Wednesday as a "hangman’s noose."

So, once again my question is WHO let the news crew in? It was obviously NOT the police since this was AFTER the custody hearing.

Also, I'd love to see the rest of the house and the conditions the boys lived in, like their bedroom, did they share a room with Daddy JP?

I have soooo many questions about all of this and it all stems from inconsistancies!

Thanks that was a good article. I find it interesting that the costs are laid out in that article with specifics, but we did not get that from the Chief. Also, another interesting thing about the article is that the FBI was called in, but again, I see no evidence of that in this case.

I find this point that the Chief also makes about Josh not cooperating to be silly, personally. Of course he isn't. In an important way, the fact he isn't is a clue in itself where to look further. Did they follow up and thoroughly search his and his suspicious father's WA residence, including the taking of computers, etc.? No. The case went cold, and had it not been for Steven Powell's big mouth, along with a very persistent journalist, it would still be cold.

When the FBI is called in on a case a lot of times you won't evidence of that in the media. They will work only with the LE and LE won't even mention them. But when the FBI takes over the case, you won't see anything from LE except brief mentions of things dug up by reporters. The FBI may be called in, but IMO the local LE is firmly in charge of this case.

In this case the fact that FBI was called in makes me wonder if perhaps they are trying to get a profiler to look at the case. A profiler could be helpful in determining when to apply pressure and when to let off for instance.

Or perhaps SP is insisting that he is willing to talk, but only to the FBI.

Thanks. Where can I read about the FBI being called on this case?

I agree that it would be nice to have the FBI involved. For one thing, the cost of the FBI would not go to the county if it follows the same rules as the Kyron Horman case. From the link I put above, "Staton said the advantage of having FBI help is that the county doesn't have to pay for it.

The local costs include experts hired for cell tower and cell phone expertise, a private behavioral specialist and an information technology specialist, he said."

BBM - these two items would be great in Susan's case. I do not know if there are any cell phone pings that are in the file of WVPD.

I just cannot wait to see Josh in an orange jumpsuit with pink handcuffs!! :behindbar

Gah...I sure hope there are. There's got to be, right? Something?

IMO

It's been awfully quiet for the past few days...wonder if Josh is talking to the FBI? Ha!

The way I'm seeing it, he hasn't any other choice. No talkie no children back. Makes him look even more guilty. I'd clear my name if I was innocent.

The way I read the articles, LE needs to send Josh a letter to formally ask him to talk to the FBI. I would bet that he won't get that letter until this week. Then we shall see. JMO

I am thinking that it may be quiet on the home front for a couple of weeks as they process the evidence, they let Josh stew on the fact that he lost his children, and they let the children find comfort with the Cox family. Again JMHO

Inconsistent - Josh from the get-go!
Josh says that his wife likely ran away with Steven Koecher; but now he says he thinks his wife committed suicide. Can't keep going with the loose woman story when it is now proven that it is actually his dad that is a perv!

Friends say he does not cook, but he takes 2 hours to cook pancakes that he serves to everyone individually rather than buffet style. Susan feels sick very soon after eating.

When Josh is reached on the phone, he says that he is in WVC. He is told
that Susan is not home; and the police have been looking for the family. Even though he is supposedly in WVC, it takes him HOURS to get home.

Josh says he is cooperating with WVPD, but in the next breath says the he will not talk to them, will only talk to the FBI.

Everything about Josh is an inconsistency, curiosity, or contradition. I just can't wait for the next couple of months. My bet - Josh will be in jail by Christmas. I think it may take additional time to get through and entire trailer of evidence.

The wheels of justice move slow, but this train is finally gathering speed.

Re: the phone call when Susan was missing. I wonder if he really was in WVC driving around scared out of his wits trying to figure out how to respond, or if it was a lie and he was still out in the desert. I am sure LE knows via pings exactly where he was when he got that call.

LOL I wonder how many times that JP has kicked himself for not calling into work for her and not calling the babysitter. If he had done that he would have had a lot more time to get things cleaned up.

My guess is that he was on his way back home, but was likely NOT in WVC. I would think that he did hesitate returning home; and I would LOVE to see his call right after this call. I bet daddy dearest was called during these hours to discuss - "what now"?! I think he was probably crapping his pants because he didn't think that anyone would notice so quickly. I think he had to compose himself before facing LE; but I also think that he was not as close as WVC during this time. If he was, it is even more "hinky" IMO. Why wouldn't you RUSH home to find out what the heck is going on if you didn't already know that your wife was gone for good?
