Infant Found Dead In Crib With 100 Small Animal Bites

Maybe the rat smothered her face before she could cry..that is so gross but they said they could be big. How big would they have to be? She was pretty little, maybe she couldn't get the rat off of her. How long does a death like this take, that poor child.

Ok rats can be as large as small dogs, and can and do a lot of damage in different ways quickly. Perhaps, rather than us telling you horror stories, it would be helpful for you to look up rat information on the internet? It can be and is very, very bad. I am sorry, it is just bad and this baby is not the first to die this way. (The truth is difficult to read, but maybe you can since you have an interest.)

?????????????????????? What?
Unless I don't get what you are saying, what horror story was I telling? I was surmising how she might have died, just like others have surmised it was sids or neglectful parents. Sorry if my question upset about the rat possibly smothering the baby upset you but are we not allowed to talk about that? That's what we talk about when other deaths occur.

I didn't think I needed to do research on every single subject on WS that I have a thought or question about. You pose questions and people who have some knowledge or opinion post back. Just like you did with your knowledge of rat extermination.

Seems everyone posting on this particular thread has an interest, you included.

Brwnigirl,

I meant no offense at all! (You were not telling a horror story, I was about to tell another one that probably did not need to be posted.) I was just saying rat stories are scary, and the best way to find out about rats is to research them. Although some of the articles are misleading, ie. rats "probably" can climb through pipes into toilet, I find it best to just research rats, habits, and extermination. Guess it did not come out right. I rarely have time to double check what I post, so I will try to be more cautious with phrasing from now on. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Yes, I am interested in this thread as sad and scary as it is.

I scanned this thread for info on the autopsy. I must have not been able to find it or it hasn't been released as of yet. Anyone know? TIA!

That is very true Lizzy..both my dog and cat have different barks/cries for things and I know them all.
I wouldn't let a 3 month old baby fuss about anything even though I was told at the hospital it teaches them self soothing. BS. I would rather an infant know comfort.
I wonder if they had a baby monitor, they had 2 young children.
I also wondered if the baby had any special needs?

I don't agree with CIO either. And I agree that it does not teach self soothing, and I'd rather my child know comfort.

But many people do use CIO. People do ignore cries. People let their kids cry themselves back to sleep. I have seen it and heard about it many times in the years since I have been a parent. I do not agree with it at all, but it happens and people do it. And while some people can distinguish differences in cries, maybe not everyone can and maybe this baby barely had a chance to cry or not at all. Unfortunately, we don't know, and it's all speculation. Regardless, the loss of this child is a tragedy.

I've never been able to let my babies cry without comforting them, but our first pediatrician actually advocated the "let them cry it out" practice, when the following conditions were met: baby is clean, dry, fed, and baby is not suffering from any fever/illness. He said babies NEED to learn to comfort themselves and fall asleep on their own.

I have no idea what happened in the little girl's case, but it is not outside of the realm of possibility that these parents were instructed to let baby cry it out.

Natalie was a healthy baby and pictures taken of her show that she was well-nourished and looking just fine. Don't go by the birth pix.
