Internet down, police counterterror unit out in Egypt

It was as late as 1980 I remember that in order to attend mass the (female) head would have to be covered. If you showed up and tried to go in without a covering the Nuns would bobbypin a kleenex to the top of your head. No lie.

(If I'm not mistaken, the covering of the head in both religions is interpreted from the same scripture or closely related scripture---no big deal though if I'm mistaken) :)

Anyway, I'm glad that this seems to have settled down and the violence was not as bad as I could have been.

It was only in the 60s here in the US when a western version of the headdress was worn.

Remember Jackie Kennedy and the pillbox hat?

Hats, veils, scarves are all rich in cultural meaning.

Cypros is right.

When I was a child it was considered bad form to go to mass without a headcovering, a mantilla
BTW I read a tweet from someone in Bahrain saying that tear gas had been used inside the hospital

The Bahraini military has opened machinegun fire on protesters who were trying to reach hospital, injuring hundreds, in what appears to be an attempted massacre, medics say.

The Army has prevented ambulances and medics from reaching those wounded amid massive pro-democracy protests in Bahrain, Dr. Ghasam, a resident at Salmaniyeh hospital in Manama, told Press TV on Friday.

He said that the protesters were marching to hospital in silence to visit those wounded in the previous rallies, when they were ambushed by troops waiting near the hospital.
