omg!
is it possible that the doorbell sound that was heard late at night, came from a cell phone ring tone?

when i was at the grocery store i heard a "grandfather clock" in the parking lot... and when i looked around, a guy was answering his phone

eta: ok i see this could already be a possibility

I vote cell phone ring also............could a cell phone be set to ring on the hour like a clock?

Strangely enough, when I first signed up here, someone had posted something about "westminister" and "Grassy Knoll", asking if either of those were names of parks or something nearby.

Westminster Abbey has famous bell/chimes, doesn't it?

I must admit, I don't know what a Grandfather Clock chime sounds like. I am not sure a 4 year old would either, unless he has been around Grandfather clocks - a lot. So, I don't think this is something that Jr. heard.

Did LE go around ringing all the doorbells on all the mobile homes in the neighborhood? No. Just this guy. I don't think this is some psychic tip. ("Go to the neighbor's house at xyz Blah Blah St. and IF he has a doorbell that sounds like a Grandfather clock, then. . . " Nah. It wasn't a psychic.

It wasn't a tip about a door bell at all.

Isn't it strange that LE would even be asking MH about the chiming sounds of a door bell he obvisouly does not have? Wouldn't it be obvious that there wasn't a door bell - especially to LE? Don't most people put door bell buttons on or close to their door? Of course they do.

But, he does live right down the street from the Cummings home and so, I am going to guess that a tip came in about, sigh, him or someone in his house. LE followed up, but didn't tell him what they were really looking for. Although I would love for there to be a secret, hidden doorbell that will lead to Haleigh's safe return!

I have been doing some checking on the name of Marty H. that lives in the home that LE went to about the Grandfather clock sound. This guy is a piece of work but…no record of any type of sex offense. He does have one interesting event in his life. A close relative of his died due to drowning, while trespassing and intoxicated. I have not been able to locate the newspaper article or an obit that would show the actual relationship. There was a law suit filed against the owner of the property, which was dismissed but it appears that this man’s behavior, if the court records are any indication, greatly changed after this and he has been in and out of court since.
This is the link to the article. Could he be unstable enough to be responsible for Haleigh’s disappearance is an unknown but I though that I would bring this to your attention.

Article:

I started looking at court documents for this person and 5 hours later I finally get done copying and pasting the dockets. This is the abridged version of each case and you can read it in more detail by going to Putnam County site http://www1.putnam-fl.com/live/clkmain.asp
Go to inquiry online. Pick Criminal and enter last name with the % sign.[don't forget to check out Civil also]
[records that I found otherwise are noted as to source]

FYI
Pick other names and start reading.
After having spent the last several weeks looking through court records in Putnam County I no longer believe that there has been any particular special treatment to Ron C. with his charges. The court system down there treats them all the same. Fine them, slap them on the writs and send them out the door. I have yet to see jail time for much of anything and when they do go to jail it is limited in time and they will even combine charges and make things run concurrent with each other.
Oh, by the way notice the name of the judge who lets everyone including Ron C. off. It is always the same judge.

Last Christmas, Home Depot, out here, sold the doorbells with 32 sounds, maybe more. They had Christmas songs and clock chimes and even "Take me out to the Ballpark" chimes, all included in the bell. No need for wiring at all....just stick them and there is a remote button for outside. I knew someone who had one, it was great! I looked recently but it may be a Christmas time stock item. I want one...LOL.

Here's a thought -- maybe a mailcarrier or some other type of delivery-person who regularly comes through this area said that in the days following the abduction, they heard or saw something in a house. Maybe they heard/saw this BEFORE they knew about the Amber Alert, so now that they are thinking back, their rounds that day are all a blur and they can't quite remember which house it was. So they are associating it with a doorbell or something at the house where whatever it was stood out to them. Maybe they heard a child inside when normally there isn't a child in the home, or maybe they saw something bizarre like blood droplets on a door, etc. In this area, I bet there are a lot of strange things (like most neighborhoods), so maybe the delivery/mail person is used to seeing a few odd things on his/her daily beat. But after he/she heard about the missing child, maybe something stood out and he/she is trying to identify the house by the only thing he/she can remember -- a sound.

Another idea -- from the pictures on the various MySpace pages, it seems like there are lots of kids in the extended family, some being older. Maybe they have interviewed older children to see what sort of games they were playing in the days leading up to the disappearance, and the kids said they were playing ring and run or that they went door-to-door for some purpose (kids do strange things -- my best friend and I decided at age 5 to go door-to-door and sell our drawings for a nickel a piece, lol). Maybe they are trying to figure out which houses these kids went to, and who they might have made contact with.

I think the sound probably IS a doorbell. Doorbells are no longer the first thing you think of when you hear a sound -- if an adult with LE heard a sound on a tape or whatever, I think nowadays the first instinct would be to assume it was a cell phone or a television. Nobody thinks about doorbells nowadays, unless they actually went TO a door. My thinking is that the tipster himself was going door-to-door and saw something, or Haleigh and other children were going door-to-door in the days leading up to the disappearance and met somebody that way who might be a POI.

We have one from HD, and it's fun. In fact, we bought one for our son, too. There's no need to wire anything. Great gift, inexpensive.

I think they are looking for PattyG's chimes. LOL Maybe someone sent them a copy of a link from here or they got it on Youtube thinking it was Ronald's phone or something like everyone else has done. (Kinda funny if you think about it)

My son can set his to ring whenever he needs to be reminded of something he needs to do.

What did we ever find out about the chime? This seemed like a very valuable tip way back......I read the whole thread and was surprised that no-one posted info or questioned if this chime or tone or whatever the cops were interested in getting info about was something that was reported by the AC guy. I always found it extremely interesting that the AC guy who was one of the last people to see Haleigh wasn't talked about more. Why didn't this guy come out and talk about what happened that day? Did he hear a chime or tone or something? Seriously.....we are talking about a missing child and he was in the house that day.....he didn't want a few minutes of fame? Was he told not to talk? I know LE says that the guy was cleared as far as a suspect but....why? And why hasn't he talked? in other cases in the past the people who were the last to see a child usually comes out to do interviews or something.

I thought the chime thing was already explained. And, about the AC guy not talking....neither has Misty's brother, who supposedly was there that afternoon.

If it was already explained then perhaps you wouldn't mind letting me know what the explanation was? I never heard one, or of course pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. I wouldn't expect Misty's brother to talk about the case because he is related to Misty and has prolly been instructed by a lot of family to remain silent or else. The AC guy, I assume was just your average heating and cooling specialist that has no claim to either side and wouldn't care to go to the media and report what he saw personally on the day Haleigh went missing.

I haven't read that LE ever explained why they were looking for a grandfather clock sound. However, some of the posters here wondered about a chime sound in one of the youtube videos sierra1947 posted and that was explained to be just a sound heard in her home while she was recording the show, and it was speculated that it might have something to do with LE looking for a grandfather clock doorbell.

Then again, it might be something else. LE should have access to recording equipment to make better quality recordings than youtube videos or they could ask for tapes from the TV producers if they want to watch past interviews. Who knows if they even looked for a grandfather clock, or if it was just a story to cover some other motive. IIRC it was just one neighbor who was quoted as saying that's what LE was looking for, not LE themselves.

I remember all of us having a conversation at the time.It was so strange hearing those chimes while watching GR and RC on youtube.I know there was no chimes watching it live.LOL It was one of the girls from here that tapes shows and that clock goes off,it's on the shows she tapes. It was a psychic that said something about chimes and they went to Marty's house looking for chimes, she felt it was there. At first we thought it was one of thier cellphone rings around RC,but then I think it was TG who told us what it was.

I could see a lawyer telling him to stay out of the spot light... but has there been any mention of him actually having a lawyer?

The lawyer aspect aside: perhaps he has no desire to make Haleigh going missing his entry into chasing his 15 minutes of fame, or maybe he knows all about the Caylee Anthony case and simply does not want to end up on the receiving end of ridiculous daisy chain theories and being fodder for the Nancy Grace circuit, on this case. Whatever it is, I give him kudos for not jumping on the "profiting off of and getting recognition off of a missing child" bandwagon. I know if I was in his shoes, I would cooperate with LE, but keep my tail out of the media.

I'm not sure if anyone has already said this but would it be hard for that person (the house they went to - Marty H.) to remove a doorbell? Do you think they would look for signs that he may have removed it.

And I'm sorry if we're not supposed to think or say things along this line b/c he does seem very open and willing to help but you never know.
