US destroyed Iran's naval headquarters and nine ships, Trump says

Francesca Chambers

President Trump in a post on Truth Social said the United States sank nine Iranian ships so far and will be going after the rest of its fleet. He said the U.S. military also destroyed Iran's naval headquarters.

"I have just been informed that we have destroyed and sunk 9 Iranian Naval Ships, some of them relatively large and important. We are going after the rest — They will soon be floating at the bottom of the sea, also! In a different attack, we largely destroyed their Naval Headquarters. Other than that, their Navy is doing very well!" Trump said.

The Washington Post reported there was no independent confirmation of the number killed, "2026 Minab school airstrike - Wikipedia" but verified footage of the destroyed school. "2026 Minab school airstrike - Wikipedia" The school was reportedly located near an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps naval base which was the target of another airstrike the same day.
This:

"The school was reportedly located near an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps naval base which was the target of another airstrike the same day."

Israel/US were bombing the nearby Revolutionary Guard location, so a nearby building - that was an all girls elementary school - was bombed too. They may have assumed it was an out-building for the guards.

That’s a shame, imo
Actually it's good to hear that Canada, in this case, allows free speech even when it disagrees with the prevailing narratives.

Operation Epic fury? What an embarrassing, disrespectful and juvenile label IMO. Have to wonder if the person/ people who picked it did so after consulting with a group of six year olds playing with their war toys in the playground or maybe some adolescent gamers. Moo

Given the number of innocent people yet to die, those already dead (incl, those 80-150 school children), and no doubt those who are dying under US and Israeli bombardment right now as I write this, how about having a little more respect for the seriousness of these killings. It's not a game. Grow up a little. Jmo

You should go live in actual society governed by fascist rule and see what it’s actually like.

Then report back, well if you can.
Seems those in power currently are heading that direction inch by inch, the parallels are frightening to many paying attention
Imo

Imagine building a school next to a naval base, sick and evil people.

Which administration is having his cronies and billionaires buy up media and attempting to silence NPR and PBS speaking of free speech?

I totally agree. Is not banning things and controlling what the population are permitted to watch what fascists and dictators do ?

Yeah, the terms were pretty simple:

No uranium enrichment.
Limits on ballistic missiles.
Stop supporting terror proxies.

In return sanctions would be removed, and the US would assist with nuclear power reactors.

Iran's negotiation position has now been severely limited. Hopefully they'll be more amenable now.
I support these desires for Iran. It does seem, though, they have nothing to do with how Iran treats its citizens, and in that sense the claims President Trump is making about this all being for the people of Iran might be a bit of an over-simplification?

There are good reasons imho to rein in Iran. Its terror attacks have affected more than one country, and it supports terror networks in more than one country. It also sends drones to Russia for use in Ukraine, and likely has connections to other nations which are not friendly to the West.

But right now this appears to follow the example of Venezuela, not so much about solid regime change to a healthy democracy where the people of the country get self determination, and more about installation of a government that will not align with terror (or not so obviously?) and perhaps enable conditions for exports of oil from Iran to countries that have placed sanctions on those exports.

Maybe we should also admit there is no good example for how to move a country like Iran into fair democracy, and that is likely part of why Trump will probably not try too hard. Should that mean that the US (and Israel) don't even try to stop the terrorism aspect from Iran? I would say they should be more honest, but Israel and the US will not be the only countries in the Middle East who want and need something done about this aspect of the Iranian leadership. Look at the US bases in the Middle East that Iran's been attacking over this? They have US bases! Part of the reason is because they are not friends with Iran.

I believe it's up to the taxpayers if they want to use their tax dollars to support state owned media, so it's up to constituents/taxpayers to inform their congressional leaders on this and then vote on the federal budget.

Operation names like this has been standard practice for generations. It’s done for public messaging and troop morale.

No one thinks this is a game.

Iran is a terror regime that has killed tens of thousands of innocent people, to include at least 30,000 of its own citizens in the past month alone.

They do not have underground nuclear sites because they are interested in nuclear energy.

They do not commit attacks around the globe (mostly through their proxies) because they are interested in peace.

When they chant “death to America” or “death to Israel” they mean it.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to (at the very least), weaken the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the modern era.

I love the name, and I love the mission.

If I think of the pain we all feel in the microcosm of Nancy Guthrie's home being invaded and her being captured, then scale that up to the macro world where the stated belief of radical Islam is to convert the entire world to Islam by force, there have been countless attacks on those of other religions worldwide. Each of the dead have left mournful and destroyed families behind.

October 7th in Israel, 9/11 here, endless vehicular attacks mowing down innocent shoppers or people just taking a stroll, attacks in malls, the attack at Bondi, the attacks on our military and ships, the attacks by lone actors on our military bases, and countless more——

Iran is a major sponsor of these attacks. The ayatollah will be replaced, I’m sure, but the world will be much safer if radicals who despise us can be weakened.

NO ONE wants schoolchildren to be killed by a wayward missile. However, no excuses meant but in reality the U.S. and Israel do not AIM to kill the innocent, whereas the ultimate goal in radical regimes is INTENTIONALLY to kill the innocent.

IMO the U.S. had an opportunity to kill the ayatollah and they took it. The Middle East respects power—-not compliance, not weakness, not politely begging.

Nine Israelis have died and over a hundred injured according to NBC this morning.

I long, as do we all, for a peaceful and tolerant world. Live and let live.

But the creed of our enemies is convert or be killed. While it is so one-sided this way, IMO we cannot sit around playing patty-cake and hope the world changes without intervention. It won’t.

JMO

Seriously? Then how do you justify the unrelenting violence against Palestinian children and adults? The fact that the average age of Palestinians is 19 years old, meaning the population is overwhelming composed of children? It’s okay if they die in the name of expanding US colonialism abroad and “protecting” Israel?

Islam may be a violent and radical regime, but so is Zionism and Christian nationalism in the United States. Weird how one group are terrorists yet the other are supposedly “fighting for democracy”.

Nevermind that US intervention almost NEVER results in actual democracy or better conditions for the countries they bomb and invade. Nevermind that Trump repeatedly asserted that Obama would go to war with Iran because he wasn’t as good at negotiating during the elections. The hypocrisy is breathtaking. This military violence has nothing to do with “liberating” the people of Iran.

Moo I think it's juvenile and embarrassing for adult persons but each to their own. Enjoy the theatre of war.

The Pentagon says it’s ‘lethalitymaxxing’. Why has ‘incel’ slang crossed into the mainstream?

In 2026, this kind of language is appearing more frequently, from America’s most prominent newspaper to the highest tiers of the US government. Why has this disfigured way of speaking become so normalized?

It starts with the rise of “incels”, a growing cohort of men who are “involuntarily celibate” and think women are to blame. Propagated via online forums like 4chan – the source of much gen Z slang – it has made its way to the mainstream thanks to a combination of algorithms, in-jokes and a Trump administration keyed into the language of these communities.

The current government knows a lot of their major supporters are young men who have been raised on a steady diet of misogyny, fascism, and nihilism by the ugliest corners of the internet, like 4chan/8chan. They know exactly what they’re doing when they form names like “Operation Epic Fury” and post racist memes showing the Obamas with their faces superimposed on apes.

I don't believe that the school was next to the naval base. It's difficult to map information in Iran as a lot of information is either missing, or possibly unavailable in English.

The school is not next to water, but a naval base is by definition next to water.

Based on estimates, I think the distance is a minimum of 20 km (15 miles).

Smoke rises after explosions rocked multiple areas of Tehran, following Israel’s announcement of new attacks on Iran, on March 01, 2026. [Fatemeh Bahrami - Anadolu Agency]

Smoke rises after explosions rocked multiple areas of Tehran, following Israel’s announcement of new attacks on Iran,

The state-run Press TV said US and Israeli warplanes hit parts of the headquarters of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) in Tehran.

Attacks also targeted residential districts in the capital, the broadcaster added.

“I have just been informed that we have destroyed and sunk 9 Iranian Naval Ships, some of them relatively large and important,” Trump wrote in a post on X, adding that Iran’s naval headquarters has been “largely destroyed” in a different attack.

The state-run IRNA news agency was reporting Sunday that at least 165 people were killed when a strike hit an all girls school in Minab, which is in Iran’s southern Hormozgan province.

A local official said among the dead were students, parents and school staff.
