The sentence hearing of the two boys who murdered 14 year old schoolgirl Ana Kriegel is due to get underway shortly.

It was previously adjourned to allow for various reports to be compiled, including psychiatric and psychological assessments.

The hearing is due to take a full day, but sentences are likely to be handed down at a later date.

Why do they all downplay the sexual element of their crimes??

I'd guess because it's more a taboo than plain old murder ... you're not just a killer but a pervert too.

Plus for most young people, anything sexual discussed with adults is embarrassing.

I'd hope that someone has discussed it plainly and factually with him ... he may believe he didn't sexually assault her for example if he didn't do certain things (I'm reluctant to be graphic here) but of course we'd see it differently.

As a result of those Det. Insp. O'Neill said Boy A has accepted that he caused Ana's death. The witness agreed with Mr Grehan that Boy A, "described various actions including headlock, choke hold, kicking, hitting her with a stick and ultimately a block which he either threw at her or hit off her head on three occasions."

But the inspector said that Boy A maintains that he did not sexually assault Ana and "puts forward an alternative explanation" for the forensics found at the scene.
