Interesting that his brother said Jon "left the hotel room with a large sum of cash on him that morning but nothing else"
He left his wallet in the hotel room but had a large sum of money with him? Odd not having the money In the wallet.

Makes me think he was either doing some sort of dodgy deal, or was planning on committing suicide and paid the taxi driver a sum of money to keep his mouth quiet.

I live 10 minutes down the road. Scary. I've seen his missing person's posters around town, and some have been deliberately ripped off.

Welcome to Ws nadial13!
Thanks for that tidbit, do you think the posters are torn down by somebody who does not like the "mess" or somebody who might know something about the missing man?

It looked like it was done deliberately, there specific parts of the page torn out. On one someone had torn out the exact shape of his photograph and left everything else.

I don't understand why he would leave the hotel carrying several thousand euro's. Short of going to a bank to a deposit it, I never travel with large amounts of cash and never on foot.

Bumping for Jon.

An old article which states: “Some media incorrectly claimed he was carrying large amounts of cash, but that was based on misunderstanding, Fréttablaðið reports.”

This is the first I've heard of this disappearance. It looks to me either suicide (likely) or foul play (less likely).

Wondering where "abroad" might mean in this case?

''Private Investigator Liam Brady has been hired by the family to help find the dad of four and says he may have a possible lead.

He hopes to interview someone who is currently in jail abroad in relation to the case.

"I would be appealing to anybody that may have information and I believe that there are people out there that do have information as to what has happened."

Jon is 6 foot, of medium build and had short brown hair when last seen.''

An Icelandic poker player who vanished without trace at the Dublin Poker Festival last year may have been killed for losing the wrong person’s money in a high-stakes cash game, according to The Dublin Herald.

Thanks for the update!

''But an unnamed criminal currently in prison in Iceland has told authorities there he knows what happened to Jonsson, The Dublin Herald reports. According to the Icelandic inmate, Jonsson was killed “accidentally” by an Icelandic man who was also in Dublin at the time after the pair argued over money he had lost.

While Jonsson was not involved in criminality, said the source, he had been entrusted with his killer’s cash — more than €4,000 ($4,690), which was to be distributed among other players as tournament buy-ins.

But Jonsson got involved in a cash game the night before his disappearance and blew the lot. According to the prisoner’s account, he tried to leave when he started to lose but was coerced into continuing by others in the game, who are described as “all foreign nationals” by the Herald. ''
