  • On the right upper arm there was a green Shamrock. On the right forearm there was a dagger with a red handle in a green sheath.
  • On the left upper arm two thin rapier-like swords with red handles crossed in front of a green heart-like shape.
  • On his left forearm the word “Eire” was tattooed in front of a green coloured shape.

If you are in Ireland (or in the UK, maybe?), "Ireland's Unidentified Bodies" can be watched here for free (episode 4 for this specific case): Virgin Media Play :: login

Does this tattoo say anything to you? That green shape looks like it could have been a county or a state (it doesn't look like Ireland, for sure)...

This is the original sketch taken by one of the police officers who attended the scene. There are no photos of these tattoos, they were taken back then but the film did not develop out.

I wonder if he was American, considering the clothing detail about Milwaukee.

"Blue Wrangler jeans and a dark-coloured. Leather belt with a silver buckle with the words Malt Liquor Schlitz and a picture of a bull - Malt Liquor Schmitz is a product of the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company, based in Milwaukee, US. Brown shoes – of JBees or B. Jees make, with rubber soles and leather uppers – and grey socks."

It is very clearly Ireland. Éire is the Irish name for Ireland, and although simplistically represented in terms of shape, I do think it resembles Ireland when Northern Ireland is also included. Also, the green color is very typical.

A few American possibilities that line up with height and approximate age.

John Donal Rafferty, last known alive in LA in 1981.
"Left Dallas in May 1979, treated for mugging in Los Angles CA 1980 or '81 (UCLA Medical Center), may work for cash as landscaper, rug cleaner, carpenter."

Richard Wayne Morrison last seen 1977 in Milwaukee.
"Richard may have been despondent over an injury lawsuit that involved several family members. Some speculation exists that he may have either faked his death and/or fled to a Spanish speaking country to start over. Vehicle was found burned out near Death Valley, California."

Stephen Lee Murphy, last seen in 1976 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
"Just walked away. Told his uncle not to worry about him, that he would be ok."

I also consider Richard Wayne Morrison a good candidate...

Btw, not only the the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company is (was?) based in Milwaukee, that belt was probably made by Bergamot Brass Works, based in Delavan, WI...

I am pretty sure the belt was made in the US and probably only sold in the US. For example, if you check Ebay, you'll see that there are many of these belts for sale and ONLY ONE comes from a European (UK) seller. On the other hand, the only J Bees I could find was an E.J. Bees Limited, a boot manufacturer that was active in Bristol, UK in 1923 (don't know until when).

Not sure what "J Bees" means in this context, instead, the brand is "Beverly Hills Polo Club":

I emailed the Gardai station linked from the Doe Network page :)

Good find!!

If it is Morrison, then 1977 to 1986 is a big gap - I can imagine a belt lasting that long, and possibly shoes if they are resoled perhaps. Regardless - you found extra clues that this guy is American or lived in America, which is huge!!! I’m having trouble searching the Charley project, but I’ll give it another try.

It would be very helpful if they released photos of the belt buckle (these manufacturers placed markings on the back of the belt buckles and it would be very easy to determine if this belt buckle was indeed made by Bergamot Brass Works or another manufacturer from another state - I'm not sure if Bergamot Brass Works was the only one using that design) and of the shoes... I've only seen a photo of the front of the belt buckle and I'm not even sure if it's of that specific one or just another belt buckle that says Schlitz Malt Liquor...

An update: they replied to my email and it was just a short response confirming that they had received it and had reviewed it, but no details.

Yeah, they always do that (I've contacted the Gardai about a couple of other cases). But they do seem to take these things seriously, I have to say. I contacted them about another unidentified person and they replied like that. Then, a few months later, I contacted the police in Northern Ireland about the same case (if I'm right, the unidentified person was from NI) and they told me that the Gardai had already requested their assistance and were investigating this possible match...
