Oh no. I had hoped she had fallen asleep somewhere safe. :(

How terribly sad. I was holding out hope for a better ending. My thoughts to her family. Rip pretty lady.

So a hen party is what we would call a bachelorette party in the US?

I can’t imagine 32 ladies out and about partying without a buddy system to keep up with each other.

It was like herding cats with just 12 of us.

Yes, a hen do is the same thing as a bachelorette party.

I think 32 is probably beyond a reliable buddy system, that's a LOT of people to keep track of at any one time. I'd have to have taken a whistle and register.

Heartbreaking and most likely, a tragic accident :(

Resulting from a scenario that is not uncommon: large groups losing track of each other overnight. Just that most end with a “what happened to you earlier” conversation. I wish for her boys that this was the ending here..

Looking at the map, a calm walk towards the water is maybe not so unbelievable. Especially as the current night temperature of 8 degrees Celsius is relatively ‘warm’. What happened next is for the authorities to investigate and prevent from ever happening again.

Thoughts with her family

So so sad :( Her poor family and friends.

Leaving without a jacket is quite common. Especially when you have your "beer jacket" on and can no longer feel the cold. I've lost numerous nice coats and jackets due to being intoxicated and oblivious to the weather - even with snow outside.

I feel really sad but at the same time relieved that she has actually been found - the sea can be cruel and never give people back to their loved ones. At least they know.

Yeh I agree with this, it's super sad but would be even worse to never know what had happened to her.

I have been hoping since I saw her thread last night that she would be found safe and sound. Rest In Peace lovely Ruth. Blessings to your children, husband, family and friends.

I wonder if she had set out to walk down to the ferry.

Interested in toxicology. Maybe someone drugged her.

Just tragic

I'm worried about that too. Although it may have been simply as stupid as taking a selfie and falling in and she wasn't heard above the noise of the group.

As best as I can understand it, the ferry was 15 kilometers from Carlingford and doesn't run after 6:30. So she either didn't know that or she was that impaired. But, why did she want to go back home that time of night?

Very sad to hear this update. Now that they mentioned there was CCTV that showed her near the water, it makes more sense to me that they seemed to put all of their focus there. They're also quick to call it a 'tragic event' which is what makes me think they may have more CCTV footage than they've told us, if you know what I mean - maybe her falling in was on there.... :(

So sad for her kids, hubby, friends and family... :(

Perhaps an argument with someone and thought - screw it, I’m going home.

I agree with you. And being impaired for whatever reason, she set out. I think the CCTV sightings may have shown her stumbling or falling. The article states that she was recovered between Carlingford and Greenore (where the ferry leaves from). That is good length of coastline and is outside the bay area at Carlingford. I wonder if she managed to go a distance before she went into the water.
