I think it was an accident...not the pic meant anything, maybe she just liked the house.

Mum who died after vanishing during Louth hen night to be buried in wedding dress

Her devastated sister Rachel Wilkinson said her family "cant get our heads around" the tragedy.

She told Independent.ie: "Nobody really knows what happened.

"Ruth had put out a short video with no sound on Instagram at 12.12am on Sunday and that was the last time she used her phone.

"But on that image there was a picture of a doorway to a small cottage across the road from the entrance to the pier and that's what triggered the whole search in the lough."

I think the video was to let people know where to find her body. And that is exactly what it did.

RIP, Ruth

So how far was it from the bar to their accommodation and to the pier/cottage? Anyone worked out where it is? And how far was she found from there?

  • #269
She was found on a small island in the middle of the Lough. Looks like she fell in and tried to swim to safety. Can’t see a girl like that committing suicide when she had a wedding coming up.

5 mins walk to their accommodation, there isn’t a pier as such, the water surrounds the edges of the town. She was found on a small island in the Lough but they haven’t said which one

I agree, 3 lovely kids and about to get married, no way she suddenly decided to commit suicide on a hen night miles away from home.

There are two short walkways/piers... when you see the actual distance from pub to piers and shore front you can see how easy it would have been to wander down there and how easy it could be to fall in . So incredibly sad .

I found a great piece of drone footage that shows the harbour walls to the north and south of the town. Do you know if the water at the end of the walls is always deep enough for boat traffic or does it depend on tides?

Praise for hen party tragedy searchers
The sister of a woman who drowned in Carlingford Lough last weekend has thanked all of those who helped in the search operation.
It was a rarity that she'd have even one or two drinks, so she'd obviously had a few at this," her sister Rachel Wilkinson said.

"Immediately the girls [on the hen night] knew that night when she didn't come back that there was something wrong."

She said they contacted contacted Ruth's partner James the next morning.

"He knew immediately that something was wrong, because she wouldn't have went to a party, she wouldn't have went on to have drinks elsewhere, she wasn't really a drinker.

"The fact that she didn't come back, we knew there was something very wrong.

I hope her children's father is the man she was going to marry so they don't have to be split up. From photos, I think he is, but I'm not 100%.

Wondering what occurred for Ruth to suddenly leave without her coat, without any other ladies in her group and to state she was going home. How intoxicated was she?

How far offshore was the island on which she was found?
