I have been a true crime addict for my entire life. I believe that the evidence shows beyond a REASONABLE doubt that all of the convicted felons that I mention in this post are guilty. So if I were on the jury for any of these trials, I would have voted guilty. Also, I think that the "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard for conviction is the best possible standard. If a defendant had to be proven guilty beyond ALL doubt to be convicted, 90% of (guilty) people in prison would have gotten away with their crimes, and there would be no law and order. Anyone could just commit any crime when there is no witnesses and then deny it, knowing that they will be acquitted. Violence would take over. In my opinion, there are only a few high profile cases in America in which the defendant was proven guilty beyond ALL doubt. I believe OJ Simpson was proven guilty beyond ALL doubt. But in most cases I have followed in which the defendant denies guilt, I have a tiny shred of doubt about the defendant's guilt.
I like to play the devil's advocate.
Do you people think that there is even the tiniest SHRED of doubt about the guilt of any of these famous defendants:
Jeff Pelo ---the serial rapist police officer in Bloomington, IL
Robert Denney ----the guy who snuck into Corey Parker's apartment in Jacksonville, FL and stabbed her to death.
Michael Blagg---- the man who murdered his wife and 6 year old daughter in Grand Juntion, CO.
Scott Peterson--- the man who murdered his pregnant wife
All four of those guys maintain their innocence. I think that there is a shred of doubt about all four of those guys' guilt, but I don't think that there is reasonable doubt.
Playing the devil's advocate:
With Jeff Pelo, there is no DNA linking him to the crime scene. His excuse of being between two houses at 01:00 a.m. to look for a house for his mother-in-law is far-fetched, but I don't think it is 100% impossible that Jeff Pelo could have been between the two houses at 01:00 a.m. to look at houses for his mother-in law.
With Robert Denney, Robert Denney's blood was found on Corey Parker's kitchen sink, and Denney's blood was found on Corey Parker's panties, which is fairly hard to explain away. But the blood was just a drop or two, IIRC. Denney's apartment window was only about twenty feet from Corey's sink. Maybe there is some innocent explanation for why a drop or two of Denney's blood was in Corey Parker's apartment with a distance of only 20 feet.
Michael Blagg ---- There is not really any smoking gun here that establishes Michael Blagg's guilt beyond all doubt.
Scott Peterson ----I don't know of any smoking gun that proves Scott Peterson's guilt beyond ALL doubt.
If you are familiar with any of these four cases, what do you think? Do you think that there is any doubt that any of those four guys is guilty?
If you are not familiar with these four cases, you might want to search for the documentaries about these cases on youtube. They are mighty interesting cases.
