In the beginning there was some sort of offer by the state for a plea deal that had a deadline attached. The state was open to reaching some sort of plea deal with the defense, but within a specific time frame, which I remember as sometime in August 2008
The deadline came and went and when a reporter asked JB about it he said something along the line of "my client is innocent and I'm not even going to dignify that offer with an acknowledgment."
From the beginning I've felt that JB intended to take this case to trial for the very selfish reason of promoting himself. I strongly doubt he was honest with Casey about her options. I think he instilled in her the belief that she will be acquitted.
I also think AL probably gave Casey a more realistic analysis of the likely outcome of a trial.
I doubt Casey would ever change her plea to guilty, and even if she were considering it, I think JB would persuade her that it's in her best interests to go to trial.
I think this case will go to trial, and when Casey is convicted, JB will blame it on media attention. Of course he will never acknowledge that it was he that argued against having a gag order, and that he took advantage of the media for his own self promotion.
