Oliver McAfee, 29, disappeared while cycling alone along the Israel National Trail near the desert city of Mitzpe Ramon.

His bike, wallet and laptop were found near the trail in late December but there was no sign of Mr McCarthy himself.

Police said the last known sighting of Mr McAfee was on November 21 on the trail.

Mr McAfee is from the town of Dromore in Northern Ireland.

Israeli police and rescue teams searching for a Northern Ireland man missing in the southern Israeli desert say they believe he is still alive.

Oliver McAfee, a gardener, from Dromore in County Down, was last seen on 21 November.

The 29-year-old had been cycling on the Israel National Trail near the desert city of Mitzpe Ramon.
Israel Police spokesperson Supt Micky Rosenfeld told the BBC the police were continuing to search for him.
"If he is still alive and we believe he is still alive, he could be hopefully be out somewhere camping, drinking and possibly eating from other sources," he said.

"Of course we are worried about him, but to say he is directly connected to Jerusalem syndrome, I wouldn't say that 100%, but taking into consideration the connection between the open desert area and possibly the fact that he was in Jerusalem, we are looking to see if there is some connection as to why he was out in the open area."

He said search team would also be searching nearby villages and have also published his photograph in cities in the south of the country.

Friends of Mr McAfee have launched a Facebook page to try to find him.

[h=1]Family of missing British tourist asks public for help[/h]

The family of missing British tourist Oliver McAfee, 29, who was last seen biking in the Negev Desert on November 19, has asked the public for help in determining his whereabouts.

During an emotional press conference on Wednesday at the British Embassy in Tel Aviv, McAfee’s older brother Matthew McAfee, and paternal uncle, Clive McAfee, said they remained hopeful that he was still alive.

According to Matthew, Oliver arrived in Israel on October 25 to bike across the country and camp in rural areas. His return flight was booked for December 1.
McAfee was last seen in Mitzpe Ramon, near a bus stop and hiking trail, where Israeli Police found his bicycle, journals, a Tablet containing 5,000 pictures and passages from the New Testament written on several pieces of paper and rocks in the area.

The family of a Co Down man who has been missing in Israel for two years have said items have been found that may be linked to his disappearance.
