I often hear people say "Hamas don't represent Palestinians." Erm... in 2006 Palestinians literally voted for them to represent them (in Gaza, at least)! And they haven't had another election since then.

In the time since Palestine had it's last election I believe Israel has held about 10.

Israel claims to have intercepted four of fifteen rockets fired from Lebanon

The Israeli Air Force has claimed that it intercepted four out of 15 rockets launched into the north of Israel from Lebanon. In a statement on social media, it posted:

Following the initial report regarding launches in northern Israel, approximately 15 rockets were launched from Lebanese territory. The IAF aerial defence array successfully intercepted four rocket launches. Ten launches fell in open areas.

A salvo of rockets was fired on Tuesday from southern Lebanon towards Israel, three security sources told Reuters, in the third consecutive day of violence along the Lebanese-Israeli border since Hamas launched an attack on the South of Israel on Saturday.

The Israeli military said it was responding with artillery fire to launches coming from Lebanese territory.

Six people were killed on the border on Monday. The UN peacekeeping force in the south of Lebanon said it was verifying reports of rockets being fired.

What's been going on?

It's been another day with updates coming in very quickly. Here are the key things you need to know to get up to speed...
  • Hamas militants warned Israeli residents to leave the city of Ashkelon by 17:00 local time (15:00 BST), and shortly after that time passed, rocket fire was heard in the city
  • Relatives of missing US nationals have given a press conference in Tel Aviv detailing the harrowing moments they last heard from their family members
  • The number of Palestinians killed by Israeli airstrikes since Saturday has risen to 830 people
  • Israel's embassy to the US says the death toll on the Israeli side has now risen to at least 1,008 people
  • Hamas said it would not negotiate on hostages until the "end of the battle". Between 100-150 Israelis are currently believed to be hostages, according to Israel's ambassador to the United Nations
Air strikes are continuing both in Gaza and Israel.

It’s become obvious that this was a well-crafted plan to attack Israel on multiple fronts simultaneously.

Taking hostages ensures that Israel has to operate with caution to avoid killing their own citizens who were smuggled into Gaza. Hezbollah attacking at the same time depletes the ability to focus on just one border and will diminish the amount of ammunition Israel needs.

Reading and watching these videos of mutilated Israeli civilians, of infants, even in the womb, of elderly women kidnapped, Holocaust survivors who were safe in the Jewish homeland, an abundance of young women kidnapped to be raped before they are executed, little children being physically dragged across the border….

The devil is at work, for sure. And in the U.S., $6 billion dollars has been released to the devil Iran, who is attempting and will now likely succeed at building nuclear capability.

Remember that Iran considers America the Great Satan, back decades ago when they kidnapped American hostages and kept them for over 40O days. I remember when they were released as Reagan was sworn in as President.

IMO the timing of this was twofold. One, Israel and Saudi Arabia were nearing a peace pact, which terrorists wanted to disrupt.

Two, there has been civil arrest in Israel and the terrorists likely assumed that the usually amazing Israeli intelligence was depleted within its own country.

And much like 9/11, American intelligence missed this, too.

Sometimes I guess even the smartest people cannot conceive of certain acts ever occurring.

We still have to take our shoes off at the airport because of that one terrorist who had an explosive in his shoe in December, 2001.

It’s literally impossible to prepare for every conceivable act of brutality when to us, they are actually INconceivable.

IMO

So much truth in this post. Thank you for it.

Naa....It appears the intelligence may have been distracted, but I'm pretty sure the terrorists knew it wasn't depleted.
Terrorists take crazy risks. I kinda think they "don't care about themselves or others". Maybe they have a "ef it all" attitude? What they do, very rarely yields any results. About all they do is "make a statement" and terrorize people.

They are basically desperate and IMO on worthless suicide missions.

Sweden has temporarily halted development aid to Palestinian territories, its development minister, Johan Forssell, said.

Denmark has also announced that it would pause its aid.

EU foreign ministers have convened an emergency meeting today to discuss decisions on funding, a day after the European Commission appeared to backpedal on an announcement that it was to suspend “all payments” to Palestinians as a result of Hamas’s attacks on Israel.

Israel says two Hamas officials killed in airstrikes

Two senior Hamas officials have been killed in air strikes in Gaza, the Israeli military says.

Zakaria Abu Muammar and Jawad Abu Shamal, members of the Hamas political bureau, died after a raid in Khan Yunis early this morning, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) say.
An IDF spokesman says Shamal was Hamas's economy minister, and was involving in the "funding of terrorism inside and outside the Gaza Strip" as well as leading operations targeting Israeli citizens.

Muammar was the head of Hamas's international relations office, and was involved in the planning of "numerous terrorist activities", the IDF alleges.

Hamas has not confirmed the two men's deaths, and the BBC has not been able to independently verify the Israeli claims.

Diplomatic talks over hostages gathering pace - source

Lyse Doucet
Chief International correspondent

Diplomatic efforts are said to be intensifying to try to free some of the more than 100 hostages reportedly being held by Hamas.

The focus appears to be on a swap involving women and children - including Israelis and other nationals - in an exchange for Palestinian women and children in Israeli jails.

A diplomat briefed on the talks told the BBC that discussions were under way involving mediation by the Gulf state of Qatar, where some of Hamas’s political leaders are based.

The US was described as co-ordinating the process. It doesn’t include the Islamic Jihad group (PIJ) which has reportedly seized about 30 hostages.

Both Israel and Hamas have publicly denied any hostage negotiations are taking place. But a diplomatic source said the talks were gathering pace.

It's unfolding in a highly fluid situation fraught with risk. One source said he was hopeful but admitted neither side was ready for mediation on any of the wider issues as this war worsens.

If after hearing and seeing women raped and murdered, babies beheaded, soldiers dragged down the street, families burned alive, Holocaust survivors kidnapped, elderly sick people murdered…people still rally behind Hamas…they, too, are terrorists.
A "like" wasn't enough. I hope we're all paying very close attention to everyone single one of these Hamas supporters showing their allegiance. In a way I guess it's a good thing their true colors are being revealed, so that we all know who they are.

The thing I've found in my somewhat sporadic following of this conflict is that Palestine supporters will avoid talking about Hamas like their lives depend upon it (which in a way it kind of does), whether that's expressing condemnation of them or support.

Whenever they get interviewed on a news channel the first thing they're asked about is the latest bad thing Hamas has done, they completely ignore the question and talk about illegal settlements and air strikes on Gaza instead! Whether or not they truly support Hamas or any of the other prescribed terror groups that commit violent acts in the name of their cause is therefore a mystery. A lot of them certainly find it impossible to condemn them though!

Israeli forces have freed 30 people who had spent three days in hiding after Hamas militants attacked their kibbutz in the south of the country, Israeli media reported.

Israel Defence Forces reached the group late on Monday evening, after getting a notice that a group of 16 Israelis and 14 Thai citizens were missing, The Times of Israel said.

They announced the rescue on Tuesday. The group lived in Ein Hashlosha kibbutz, just a few kilometres from Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

An officer from the Home Front Command was quoted saying the rescue “brought a little bit of light”. There were no other details given about where or how they had hidden, and a spokesperson for the IDF declined to comment further.

Israeli general speaks of babies killed in kibbutz massacre

An Israeli army general has been giving details of what he calls a "massacre" at the Kfar Aza kibbutz in Israel, just a short distance from the boundary with the Gaza Strip.

"You see the babies, the mothers, the fathers, in their bedrooms, in their protection rooms and how the terrorist kills them," said Maj Gen Itai Veruv, as quoted by the Reuters news agency.

"It's not a war, it's not a battlefield. It's a massacre," he added.

Reuters reports that bodies of Hamas militants were found at the site, along with those of Israeli residents.

Speaking ahead of the EU foreign ministers meeting, the German foreign minister, Annalena Baerbock, said she was urging Palestinian leaders “in no uncertain terms” to distance themselves from terrorism.

There can be no justification for it. As the Palestinian Authority, you have an obligation to act responsibly, also in the interests of your own people. The violence must not be allowed to spread to the West Bank.
On the issue of suspending EU aid to Palestine, she said:

Germany like the European Commission, regularly reviews its assistance for the Palestinian territories. In this emergency situation we are once again scrutinising not only our development cooperation but also our humanitarian assistance, in close consultation with the United Nations. We agree, however, that it would be quite wrong at this point in time to halt vital humanitarian assistance for the civilian population.

Sorry but I absolutely disagree.

They are not “just talk.” Jihadi terrorists have attacked the innocent all over the world, using all kinds of demonic plans.

<modsnip - please refrain from discussion of 9/11 as it will derail this thread. We need to think about the victims of THIS action on this thread>

They are still dead, after all. It’s not just words. It’s plans that sometimes are thwarted and sometimes succeed.

You may be correct about terrorists not caring about themselves. How well I remember Al-Qaida saying that they look forward to death the way we look forward to life.

My sources are too many to link but the source is public history.

The rest is IMO.

Israeli warplanes pounded downtown Gaza City, home to Hamas's centres of government, with relentless bombardments into early Tuesday, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed retaliation against the Islamic militant group that would "reverberate for generations."

The four-day-old war has already claimed at least 1,830 lives, as Israel saw gun battles in the streets of its own towns for the first time in decades and neighbourhoods in Gaza were reduced to rubble.

The Israeli military said more than 1,000 people have been killed in Israel. In Gaza and the West Bank, 830 people have been killed, according to authorities there. Thousands have been wounded on both sides.

Israel said that Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza are holding more than 150 soldiers and civilians snatched from inside Israel after the attack caught its vaunted military and intelligence apparatus completely off guard.

In a statement, the UN Human Rights Office called on all states with influence to take steps to de-escatate the conflict, as the organization looks to "keep the plight of civilians at the forefront," Liz Throssell, UN spokesperson, told CBC News Network. "We have seen terrible loss of life, both among Israel civilians and Palestinian civilians," she said.

The National breaks down the threats facing Israeli hostages and how they could change the trajectory of the war between Israel and Hamas.

Aid organizations pleaded for the creation of humanitarian corridors to get aid into Gaza, warning that hospitals overwhelmed with wounded were running out of supplies. Israel has stopped all access of food, fuel and medicines into Gaza.

"For us, what is important to underscore is that restricting, or cutting off, essential supplies — food, water, electricity — it is really prohibited unless it's justified by what's called in legal terms 'a military necessity,'" said Thorsell.

The events are being watched around the world, with Canada among the countries mourning the death of its citizens while monitoring for possible hostages.

U.S. President Joe Biden is scheduled to speak Tuesday with Netanyahu about co-ordination with allies to "defend Israel and innocent people against terrorism," the White House said

Palestine needs to condemn these atrocities.

Are Hamas their representatives, does Palestine stand by their actions? Yes or no? Palestine must tell us loud and clear which one it is. We are watching and listening.
