Gaza's only power plant runs out of fuel – energy ministry

Gaza’s only power plant ran out of fuel Wednesday afternoon, forcing it to shut down after Israel cut off supplies, the energy ministry said.

That leaves only generators to power the territory – but they also run on fuel that is in short supply within Gaza.

Russian president Vladimir Putin has commented on the escalating violence between Israel and Hamas, blaming the US for failing to pursue a solution.

Reuters reports Putin said the conflict could not be resolved without addressing issues such as the establishment of a Palestinian state.

He accused the US on Wednesday of sidestepping an established process of settling the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and of trying to take matters into its own hands without resolving the fundamental issues.

“Part of the lands that the Palestinians consider and have always considered part of the original Palestinian lands is occupied by Israel at different times and in different ways. Mainly, of course, with the help of military force,” Tass quotes Putin saying.

Earlier Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters “We maintain our contacts with the parties to the conflict,” adding that Russia “continues to carefully analyse the situation” and that it “retains its position as a country that has the potential to participate in settlement processes”

BREAKING

Mains electricity in Gaza has gone out

Mains electricity has gone out in Gaza after its sole power station ran out of fuel.

Since Hamas's attack at the weekend, Israel has imposed a siege of Gaza, cutting its supplies of electricity, fuel, food, goods and water.

It means people in Gaza will rely on generators for electricity - if they have the fuel to run them.

They should have invested in wind and solar energy instead of rockets

Can they launch rockets without electricity?

Lucy Aharish is an Arab Israeli news anchor. This is a very powerful video.

"Try to imagine that you're waking up on Saturday morning to the sounds of sirens, with your children next to you, and then a terrorist comes into your home, your safe shelter, and starts murdering your family in front of your eyes. Can you imagine that?"

I am heartbroken for all the innocent people caught up in this ugly mess. That includes all the innocent people in Gaza. I know that Hamas must be obliterated, and I agree, but I can’t be happy that there is no fuel or water or food or medical help for so many thousands of people right now. I know Hamas started it and they knew this would happen to Palestinians, and Israel must counter-attack, but I am devastated for all the innocent people who have to live through this and try to survive it.

I want to clarify, that when i said there was no good guys in this war, i was talking about the conflict as a whole, i think Israel has done some bad things in the past, but in this current war, i think they are doing the best they can to defend themselves without harming innocent civilians.

The US has discussed brokering an aid corridor for civilians in Gaza as Israel’s air force continued to pound the territory.

The US national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, said on Tuesday that talks on safe passage for civilians in Gaza were being held with Israel and Egypt. “We are focused on this question. There are consultations going on. But the details of that are something that are being discussed among the operational agencies and I don’t want to share too much of that publicly at this time.”

The US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, was due to arrive in Israel on Thursday to discuss support in the war.

There have been pleas from humanitarian groups and EU officials for the creation of corridors to allow aid into Gaza and warnings that hospitals overwhelmed with wounded people were running out of supplies.

Israel thanks US after arms shipment arrives

1697031142593.jpeg

Israel's foreign minister, Eli Cohen, has shared this picture of a billboard by a road in Israel on X, formerly Twitter.

Alongside it he again wrote the words "thank you Mr President".

It comes as the US is boosting military aid to Israel, with the first plane carrying US arms arriving in southern Israel yesterday evening.

The Israeli army said "advanced ammunition” had arrived at the Nevatim Airbase, and it was "meant to enable significant strikes and preparation for additional scenarios".

Yesterday US President Joe Biden condemned Hamas' unprecedented assault on Israel as “sheer evil”.

The US is also moving an aircraft carrier and a fighter aircraft to the eastern Mediterranean.

Troops working to seal, demine breaches in Gaza border fence

The Israel Defense Forces says Combat Engineering Corps troops have been working to seal up the many breaches in the Gaza border fence, caused by Hamas’s Saturday morning murderous infiltration into southern Israel.

In a statement, the IDF says four combat engineering companies, using more than 30 armored heavy engineering vehicles, are fixing and sealing up the border barrier.

The troops are being supported by tanks and aircraft, which have been striking Palestinian terrorists attempting to reach the border area, the IDF says.

The Combat Engineering forces are also working to disarm and safely remove explosive devices planted by Hamas terrorists in the area.

MOD NOTE:

Hi everyone. Quick note to ask you all to please watch your sources as some are popping up here that are clearly not MSM. And remember that opinion pieces are not allowed. Everybody has one, but we don't need to see them here - we want the facts!

Also, please don't post clickbait articles about what some random person, even a celebrity, has said about this conflict. Even if it's posted in MSM, that's about the person not the war, and only clogs the thread with useless "I hate them" type responses. We want the facts, not virtue signalling.

Thanks,
Knitty
