The police and federal prosecutor’s office are still looking for a girl who is believed to have been kidnapped by a gypsy family from Italy. On September 1, 2004, the then 4-year-old Denise PIPITONE disappeared in front of her home in Sicily, Italy. It is almost certain that the toddler was kidnapped. The girl may have been taken by a gypsy family that travels all over Europe. Denise’s mother is firmly convinced that her daughter is still alive. She believed she recognized her missing child in a video made about 6 weeks after the disappearance. The images show a girl in a group of Roma gypsies who are begging in the center of Milan. The resemblance is striking. The Italian authorities and the police take this approach very seriously and appeal to the population throughout Europe.

Denise Pipitone, 4 years old, missing from Mazaro de Vallo (Sicile)

Denise was born on October 26, 2000.

Disappeared on September 1, 2004 in MAZARA DEL VALLO (TRAPANI) Sicily at the age of 4.

Brown eyes.
Brown hair.
Scar on left cheek, under eye.

Denise PIPITONE disappeared on September 1, 2004 while playing in front of her home in MAZARA DEL VALLO (TRAPANI) Sicily.

In the space of a few seconds, barely enough time to set the lunch table, Denise had disappeared from the step in front of the door of the house where she was playing.

The disappearance took place around noon on September 1, 2004 in Mazara del Vallo (Trapani) at the corner of Domenico La Bruna Street and Castagnola Street, which leads directly to the highway.

Running after a little cousin, Denise turned the corner of the street, where an aunt of the child lives who reported seeing her for the last time around 11:45 a.m. walking past her house then turning around towards the house, where she never returned...

(Denise’s mom) “On the morning of September 1, 2004, at 8:30 a.m., I was ready to leave the house because at the time, I was attending computer classes that I had started in March 2004.

This training provided for a month of vacation during the month of August, with classes scheduled to resume on September 1st. This explains the reason for my exit.

On the morning of September 1 precisely, I had entrusted my two children to my mother and left my house.

Around 12:30 p.m., I received a phone call telling me that they had been looking for my daughter for half an hour with no results.

I rushed home, so worried and anxious that I no longer remembered how fast I could have driven the car.
Instinctively, knowing my little girl well, the only thing I was sure of was that something serious had happened since she had not been found.
When I arrived home, I saw a disturbing scene. There were a lot of people, police patrols and carabinieri and that's when my fears were confirmed.

I started by searching inside the apartment and inspected everything, the cabinets, drawers, bedrooms, garage and even the surroundings of the house in case Denise had moved alone.
I was certain, knowing my daughter, that she would never have moved away since she was too small to move around and I continued to repeat this to the authorities.

At the same time, she never moved without being accompanied, never alone in the street.
I add that she didn't like walking. She was a lazy child and was afraid of cars and street vendors who shouted to sell their wares like they are used to doing back home.

I learned that Denise was kidnapped around 11:45 a.m.

Three hours later the authorities really considered that the matter had taken a worrying turn.

I can say with certainty that Denise was at home with her grandmother until at least 11:35 a.m. The little one was playing in the kitchen garage with the door open, with her grandmother looking on. who was at the stove preparing the meal.

It should be noted that a year earlier, my mother had been the victim on the ground floor and in broad daylight of a theft committed by a young man who had entered through the window, so that we were never too cautious and even the children were afraid of this story.

I would like to point out at the same time that we live not far from the cemetery. Every Wednesday morning at a distance of 500 meters from us, the local market is held. Our house is on the corner and consists of four apartments, all inhabited by my family with a ground floor and a first floor. The door to my house faces Domenico la Bruna street, while the house of Denise's aunt, my brother's wife, and the last person who saw her, is on the corner of Castagnola street.

I repeat, Denise was never alone, in the same building three of her cousins live, including a little girl her age.

That morning, Denise was with her grandmother playing in the kitchen garage. The testimony of his cousin confirms this since the latter, leaving his house on rue Castagno, approached the garage-kitchen and saw Denise playing who, noticing his presence, started running after him.

But the cousin didn't notice anything and returned home to Castagnola street.

Through the glass door, Denise's aunt saw the face of Denise, who had approached for a moment, after which the little one walked away, returning towards her grandmother's house, on the side of rue Domenico la Bruna where we lost track of him.

Denise was kidnapped in a matter of minutes. This is where our drama began.
In Domenico la Bruna street, part of the neighborhood is made up of members of our family. The most used rooms, such as the kitchen, are opposite the street.

In Castagnola Street in the summer, part of the neighborhood is made up of vacationers and all along the street there are houses with kitchens located inside, which makes it difficult to notice anything happening. 'unnatural. We can add that the time when Denise was kidnapped coincides with the time the meal was being prepared, which implies that everyone was cooking.

No one actually says they saw or noticed anything strange that morning or at that particular time.

But until now, we still haven't been able to find my little girl who was barely 4 years old and we have no news of her."

The disappearance of Denise Pipitone, what we know, appearances and trials

The case of Denise Pipitone, who disappeared on September 1, 2004 in Mazara del Vallo, in the province of Trapani, is one of the mysteries of Italian news that has held public attention for years.
The girl was almost four years old when she disappeared without a trace, and since then her mother Piera Maggio continued to search tirelessly for her, following every possible lead and clue.

The reconstruction of the event and the initial hypotheses

Investigations carried out by authorities and the media over the years have considered several hypotheses.

One of the most discussed theories concerns the involvement of Jessica Pulizzi, Denise's half-sister, who, according to the theory, kidnapped the baby, in cahoots with the mother Anna Corona and her ex-boyfriend Gaspare Ghaleb.

The motive for this alleged kidnapping would be Jessica's jealousy towards Denise, since both were daughters of the same father, Pierre Pulizzi.
This reconstruction brings forward a series of implications regarding the extended family environment and related dynamics as possible causes of Denise's disappearance.

Observations, new investigations and case updates

Since the disappearance, several sightings have been reported of girls resembling Denise, both in Italy and abroad. Regardless of these observations, none ever led to any concrete results or resolution of the case.

2021 saw a reopening of the investigation, in hopes of shedding light on new details of the case. In this context, the possibility of involving nomadic or gypsy communities as intermediaries in Denise's disappearance is analyzed.

Commission of inquiry and analysis of investigations

Denise's parents, Piera Maggio and Pietro Pulizzi, called for the creation of a Commission of Inquiry to analyze any misdirection, conflicts of interest and anomalies in the investigation carried out over the years.

The commission would be tasked with evaluating important aspects of the investigations, such as the procedures used in DNA testing done on several occasions where Denise was believed to have been found, or the motivations behind the acquittals for lack of sufficient evidence of the suspects involved in the case.

Trials, acquittals and uncertainties in the case

Despite the many assumptions and suspicions involved in the case, Jessica Pulizzi was acquitted by all levels of judgment due to lack of evidence.
This opens questions about the validity of the proposed reconstructions and the procedures adopted by law enforcement and courts.

In light of this, the case of Denise Pipitone still remains open, with the hope that further investigations will finally lead to the solution of this unsolvable mystery.
Denise Pipitone's observations
Over the years, there have been several reported sightings of Denise or girls who look like her. In many cases, the authorities did DNA tests and carried out extensive investigations, but failed to solve the mystery of her disappearance.

Denise Pipitone's observations

Over the years, several sightings of Denise or girls who look like her have been reported. In many cases, authorities have done DNA testing and conducted extensive investigations, but have failed to solve the mystery of his disappearance.

Here are some of the most important observations.

Observation in Milan (2004)
On October 18, 2004, a security guard named Felice Grieco noticed a little girl resembling Denise at a Roma business on the street in Milan. Grieco managed to film the little girl, who was called 'Danas' in the video.
The little girl had a scratch on her cheek under one eye, a sign Denise had at the time of her disappearance. Despite this, the child has not been identified as Denise.

Case of the Greek island of Kos (2008)
In September 2008, an Italian nurse vacationing on the Greek island of Kos saw a little girl who looked a lot like Denise. The child was in the company of an Albanian woman who claimed to be the mother.
However, on September 12, 2008, a DNA test definitively ruled out that the child was Denise Pipitone and confirmed that she was the Albanian woman's daughter.

Observation in Russia (2021)
On March 31, 2021, a Russian nurse living in Val Seriana reported on the television program “Chi l’ha visto?” » saying he noticed a strong resemblance between Piera Maggio and a twenty-year-old Russian girl participating in the television show Pust' govoryat (Let them talk).
The girl's name is Olesya Rostova and she claims to have been kidnapped by gyspy people as a child and looking for her mother. However, Piera Maggio's lawyer announced that Olesya Rostova's blood type is not compatible with Denise's, and that he would have informed the Marsala Prosecutor's Office.

Each of these observations generated hopes and questions, but ultimately did not lead to the solution of the Denise Pipitone case.
While investigations are still ongoing, the hope of finding Denise and shedding light on her disappearance remains alive.

Just went on maps to check the area around where Denise went missing and look what I found... As in 2022, her photo is still hanging on the building.
