Deceased/Not Found Italy - Li Yinglei, 36, vanished from Mediterranean cruise, 10 Feb 2017 *husband guilty*

I'm in two minds about him being guilty. He could well be, but IMO proof should be beyond a reasonable doubt. I wish there had been more reporting on the details of this case. So we would know more about the strength of the file and the evidence that the prosecution presented. How did the evidence pass the threshold of reasonable doubt and how did they pull that rabbit out of the hat, I wonder?

Very true - very bad coverage - and we really do not know what that evidence was. Video? who knows. Maybe he will win his appeal.
And doesn't Italy have judges that decide?

A German man living in Ireland who was accused of killing his wife on a cruise ship has been acquitted of murder.

Daniel Belling, 49, who has been living in Ireland for years, was convicted in Italy of the murder missing wife Xing-Li, 38, while they were on a Mediterranean cruise in February 2017.

Belling, who did not travel to Italy and was convicted in his absence, had been sentenced to 26 years in prison - but the charge has now been thrown out in Rome’s Court of Appeal.

Mr Belling himself first informed the Irish Mirror of the bombshell decision, and told us of his delight that he is once again a free man.

“I was just acquitted in Italy. The lawyer said they have it today but in Italy the process of having it written out comes later.

“I’m very happy, yes. Oh it’s great, I am still a bit muted. I cannot yet express how I feel,” he said.

I thought he was arrested soon after leaving the ship. So what did he do with the "large trolley" that he was carrying? The one that may have held her body? Wonder what he says happened to it. I guess he never produced it for them...

So they were no longer accusing him of putting her dead body in a suitcase and throwing her overboard?

I also wonder how they claimed he managed to kill her when the whole family was staying in a single suite. Wouldn't this had to have happened in front of the children? They were young, but not so young that they couldn't have told someone if they'd seen the murder.

Was this a judge or jury trial?

No news means news after all!

From the article:

On Thursday, Judges of the Court of Appeal in Rome acquitted Mr Belling after his lawyer Lugigi Conti argued it was a “trial based on feelings” and said there was no element to support his guilt. It comes after Mr Belling previously told us that he believed his wife was probably dead.

A trial based on feelings an no evidence ... from what we gathered, that sums it up neatly. And when in doubt, that doubt should favour the accused.

Meanwhile, the mystery continues. 🤔

Perhaps Italy grew weary of paying for his confinement. Send the b@&#%* home.

Actually he was back in Ireland or England waiting on his appeal. So not sitting in any confinement.
