Circumstances of Disappearance

Santina Renda disappeared as she was playing with other children in the neighborhood where she lived with her family. Vincenzo Campanella, a 17-year-old cousin of Santina’s with mental problems, confessed that he had hidden Santina’s body, after she had died in a motorbike accident caused by him. But then he retracted his confession. Two years later, on February 5, 1992, an 8-year-old cousin of Santina’s, Maurizio Nunzio Renda, disappeared. His body was found the same day; he had been beaten to death with an iron bar. Vincenzo Campanella, after confessing his guilt, was tried summarily and sentenced to 29 years in prison. He was not given a life sentence because he was considered mentally unstable.

However, I found an article where the sister stated that she was one of the children that was playing with Santina that day, and here's what she remembers about it : “When we left school we came home for lunch and then in the afternoon we went to the courtyard under the house to play. . A white car was driving by, at one point it stopped and a man with a full beard and sunglasses got out. I don't remember if he lured her with candy or puppets, but all I know is that they grabbed her and put her in the car. Since then, my sister has not come home."

Also, the day after the disappearance, family received a tip that a man from Lamezia Terme who was on his way to go fishing, saw two little girls in a gyspsy camp. An older one, and younger one who was crying. Later when he saw the show "Chi L'ha Visto?" dedicated to Santina's disappearance, he told his wife "That's the girl I saw" and then went to report it to the police.

There was an other article that was released (I think it was in september) that said the DNA didn't match, unfortunately.. I'll post it here tomorrow (it's late in France lol)

That's the article I was talking about yesterday : "Non è Santina Renda la donna che vive in Germania", l'esame del Dna spegne le speranze

"It's not Santina Renda, the woman who lives in Germany", the DNA test extinguishes hopes
Yet another attempt in the search for the little girl who disappeared at the Cep in March 1990 was in vain. Today she would be 40 years old.

DNA test extinguishes hopes. It is not Santina Renda, the woman who lives in Northern Germany and who in recent weeks had contacted the Manisco World association, which deals with missing persons. The news was given by Palermo lawyer Giorgia Bagnasco, who is part of Manisco's legal team.

The forty-year-old German, the same age as Santina Renda would be today - of whom there has been no news since 23 March 1990, when she was seen for the last time in via Pietro Dell'Aquila, the street of the Cep where she lived - had told the association of having noticed a great similarity between the photos of her as a child and those published on the Manisco website, as well as recognizing herself in the story of Santina's disappearance.

The lawyer Luigi Ferrandino, head of the legal and investigative area of Manisco, after having involved all the experts of the team to evaluate the information provided by the woman and understand if there were the conditions to continue the verification activity.

There were several similarities between the German woman's experience and that of Santina Renda's early years. So it was decided to proceed with the acquisition of the biological material necessary to carry out the DNA examination and dispel any doubts.

"With great difficulty, last week, the biological material arrived at Marina Baldi's laboratory in Rome and within just under a week we had the response." Negative response which was communicated first to Santina Renda's family and then to the many who follow the case through social media. "
