Details of Disappearance
Hay's family discovered she was missing as they prepared for an outing in Shawnee County, Kansas on September 12, 1981. She has never been heard from again. There was a possible sighting of Hay following a man on the day of her disappearance, but this sighting has not been confirmed and the man, if he existed, has not been identified.
Authorities did not begin searching for Hay for four hours after her disappearance was reported. They believe she was most likely abducted, but few clues are available in her case.
