Our chute is 30 cm wide by 25cm high. Rubbish bag only drops when you close the chute door.

MOO:
Possibly related to Jackie Rose Elmquist, who was reported missing after her coworkers put her in a cab after a work holiday party on Thursday night:

I cannot imagine a drunk person having the coordination it would take to get into a chute from a residential floor. Since LE is saying no foul play suspected, I'm thinking she had to somehow access the garbage area in the basement and perhaps got into some sort of utility area where the chutes empty. ?? It is strange.

I am curious what COD will be. That will provide some answers, imo.

jmo

These kinds of cases infuriate me to no end!

Kenyetta Jenkins, Libby Squire, and this young woman are all victims thanks to their so called "friends".

Kenyetta's friends ditched her after she got too drunk at a hotel party, and she locked herself inside an industrial sized freezer by accident.

Libby's friends basically did Jackie's coworkers did; shoved her into a cab after she drank way too much. She made it to her house, didn't make it to her door, wandered around, and was taken advantage or and murdered.

If just ONE person could have taken the time to help their friend or colleague :mad::mad::mad:

But nooooo lets just get rid of the annoying person so we can enjoy our good time :mad::mad::mad:

Seriously though!!! Your young, attractive, extremely intoxicated and highly vulnerable "friend" should not be put in that situation.

Really, really makes me disgusted for humanity.

I haven’t read all the details yet but was initially reminded of the Heidi Planck case in Los Angeles.

Though in this case there is no foul play suspected?

Reminds me of Kenyetta Jenkins.

Her so-called "friends" ditched her after she drank way too much at a hotel party and she accidently locker herself inside an industrial sized freezer.

A coworker and I were roofied at a work event. I ended up wandering around downtown blacked out for several hours before eventually finding my way onto a train. I ended up in an apartment building lobby next door to my boyfriend's building - I had followed someone in and they held the door for me. I have about 5 minutes of memories for a total of six hours. It terrifies me when I hear about others who were in a similar situation and did not end up ok like I miraculously did.

Thank God you lived to tell us your story. I’m sorry that happened to you.

Per the article in your post:

Police now confirm -- 24-year-old Jaclyn, or Jackie, Elmquist -- fell down a garbage shoot.

Errr... fell? Or was she dumped in it? I find it hard to believe she fell down the chute. All MOO

Link from quoted post to keep it all together:

What would be involved in ending up in one of these trash chutes by your own doing? I have never seen one...
An apartment chute is primarily used to dispose of the garbage in a sanitary way in high-rise and mid-rise buildings. You only need to open the door of the chute on your floor. Put the trash inside, and close the door. The garbage goes directly to the central waste location, such as a dumpster or a compactor.
Trash chutes are usually made of galvanized steel, stainless steel, or aluminized steel. You can find a door to intake garbage on every floor. There are chute support frames made from steel and bar stock on each floor.

The diameter of garbage chutes can be 20-36 inches. The discharge door is at the bottom of the tube connected with the compactor or dumpster.

This is why I have a hard time believing she fell into one as stated in my post above:

Thank you, Knox! I appreciate your kind words.

"police do not currently suspect foul play" hmm...sorry, but I'm always immediately suspicious with deaths involving garbage chutes. Even among the extremely intoxicated.
I'd like to know what the coroner's report says. Like... trauma to the top of the head (possibly inserted into the chute head first) or damage to her feet (dropped feet first)? Although I don't know how quickly things drop to the bottom. Is it like an elevator (slowly) or is it more like a free-fall?

I'd also like to know if there were any cameras at the trash compactor location.

I realize what LE are claiming but could she have gained access to the bin via underground parking garage???

I'd like to know which is accurate: was she found in a garbage chute or a trash compactor? The articles are saying both things. Whilst those two things are related, I would consider the chute and the compactor to be different parts of the disposal system.

I am been in a lot of highrise buildings with garbage chutes, I have never seen the one in that picture. Do you know if the garbage access looked like that?

My guess is in whatever is at the bottom to catch the garbage. See my guess to your Q below.

A young woman found dead at the bottom of the compactor chute at a condo building in Manhattan may have gone missing a day before her gruesome discovery, law enforcement sources say.

[...]

Residents of the building, horrified by the news of the woman's death, learned a maintenance worker found the woman's body while taking out the trash.

For what I know about chutes is stuff goes down them and ends up in whatever is below meant to catch the garbage. I'm guessing, that she was found in the trash collector, and not the actual chute (unless she got stuck but it doesn't appear that way), as I can't imagine garbage not making it to the final destination, and a body is much heavier.

Also, the 1st quote above mentioned the "bottom of the compactor chute", but pics I've seen in the articles you guys have posted looks like a body on a stretcher, not something 'compacted'/crushed. Just a guess on my part so JMO. :)

Considering Elisa Lam managed to climb into a water tower at the roof of the Cecil Hotel and drown, I'm open to a lot of different possibilities as to how JE ended up where found. COD should help.

I'm wondering if she somehow climbed into the compactor from the basement, rather than ending up in the compactor after going down a chute. As you've noted, her body (what we can see of it) doesn't appear "compacted."

I don't have specific knowledge about this building but trash chutes in buildings drop into a top feed dumpster with a built-in compactor. The compacting plate moves from beneath the front drop area and pushes the trash toward the back of the dumpster. For safety, the system is enclosed and unless you have the ability to open the doors where the compacted trash is emptied out (like at the landfill), there is not access. You couldn't get in past the compacted garbage, anyway. The whole dumpster is picked up and taken away to be emptied.

I have had access to areas for these compacting dumpsters, they don't compact every time a bag of garbage or anything else drops in, they have sensors.

Don't think it has a garage, +Art site doesn't mention parking.
ETA: StreetEasy entry

No garage, but a building like this would likely have a backdoor/service entrance. I wouldn't expect it to be open/unlocked at night, but it's possible.

The building is listed as having a 24-hour doorman, who should be stopping any non-residents coming in the front door. Usually the doormen know everyone who lives there but in my experience those that work in the off-hours may be less familiar. I think a person who looks like they belong could walk past the doorman without raising any alarm.
