I found this link, which says that she was found unconscious in the trash compactor, and then died at the hospital. It said that her injuries were consistent with falling in the trash chute. The article also says that the ME‘s office is looking into what caused her death. So I guess it is not known. I could not find any articles after December 5, though.

Wondering if we will find the actual COD here -- it's a dwelling, and it could be that the actual owners of the building would not want it to be reported -- no matter how she actually died.
I don't know if LE will report it, etc., etc.
OTOH, she may have parents/relatives, etc., who might demand that it be told to alert others to be careful WRT these types of chutes, and there is always a chance of a lawsuit... SMH.
May she rest in peace.

Actually, the link says she was later pronounced dead at the scene:

NYPD officers said she was “unconscious and unresponsive” in the compactor, and emergency services later pronounced her dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation determined her injuries were indicative of having fallen down the garbage chute.
