Jane Bennington murdered 08/02/1977

I went to school with Jane and have tried for years to see if the case was solved. I finally had a phone call with the Newport Beach, CA police department in 2024 confirming they had finally ID'd the killer, who is now deceased.

I tried to get the police to issue a news release about solving this case, but they said they couldn't because of "family" requests. I can only assume this means her two brothers because her parents are long deceased.

Does anyone know how you can "force" the police department to acknowledge the solving of this case. If the brothers die, is it then available for public disclosure? It's the Newport Beach, CA police department.

There has been quite a bit of discussion regarding the unsolved murder of Jane Bennington, 29, in Corona Del Mar, CA on Aug. 2, 1977. Many have speculated, including authorities early on, that her rape/strangulation/murder was the beginning of the Original Night Stalker.

Jane was a friend of our family and her roommate stayed with us for months after the murder. Like many of you, I too thought that perhaps the EAR/ONS may have killed her since there was a time lapse between rapes in Sacramento at the time and the killer obviously upgraded to murder later on in nearby Dana Point and...
