Because of the conflicting stories and nobody agreeing on anything,it leads me to believe that truelly nobody has a clue as to what is happening. We here at WS are probably more informed!!! That is a scary thought!!!

I spend most of my time on here because I get more news than I do from the TV. Everyone here is listening, looking, researching, and sharing the info.

Scrolling across CNN.........they have asked for expert help to deal with reactors.

I wish I could be a cockroach in the war room of the USS Ronald Reagan. Can you imagine what must be going on there and what they KNOW?

There is a reason they moved that super carrier upwind! They saw the radiation levels on those soldiers when they came back aboard.

PS - I said cockroach because they can withstand a nuclear winter.

Emergency cooling effort failing at Japanese reactor, deepening crisis
HIROKO TABUCHI, KEITH BRADSHER and MATT WALD, NYT News Service | Mar 15, 2011, 12.34am IST

TOKYO: Japan's struggle to contain the crisis at a stricken nuclear power plant worsened sharply early on Tuesday morning, as emergency operations to pump seawater into one crippled reactor failed at least temporarily, increasing the risk of an uncontrolled release of radioactive material, officials said.

What would be the best organization to donate to where most of the proceeds go to the victims and not admin. I know there was a lot of problems during Haiti with only a small percentage of the donations actually making it to the people. Can I designate that I want my money to be funneled into that relief effort?

I remember Doctors without Borders were stymied by the lack of supplies. Would donating directly to them get much needed supplies to them faster or was all that more about moving supplies due to infrastructure breakdown?

Also, has anyone ever heard of this organization...are they legit? In addition to the people, I'd like to make a donation to help with all the homeless pets. Is there a better organization for the animals? I know there needs for food on Cat Island as well but not sure how to get anything there.

They are legit, I've heard of them a lot :)

In addition to them maybe check with best friends animal sanctuary and see if they have anything set up. I donate to them regularly

There is some place online where you can check on charities and find out how much of your donation goes to operating costs that kind of thing...
It might be non profit watch or something like that....

It seems to me that most of the people that are living need food, water, shelter and things like that which the Red Cross would be equipped to provide. It appears, unlike in Haiti, there aren't that many injured people and, that they do have the ability to get them to hospitals.

There are a great number of dead people that need to be taken care of. Not sure who helps with that.

Oops, hit the Paypal button to donate and it's entirely in Japanese so I guess that's not an option.

here ya go

found this online about helping..

Please note that the donation links for the organizations in Japan take you to the Japanese language version of PayPal. Once you enter the amount of your donation in Japanese yen (4000 yen is roughly $50 US), and enter your PayPal login information, it takes you to an English PayPal page and you can complete the donation.

Quiche, that's what I've been afraid of. They aren't giving out the radiation levels? If they were not covering something up....there would be no reason to hide them.

Okay, I'm getting the ¥ Yen sign asking how much I want to donate. I've never done anything like this. Can anyone give a breakdown of say, how many yen =$100.

  • #1,018
From Quiche's linkage:

"The actions of the Japanese government are completely contrary to their words. They have evacuated 180,000 people but say there is no radiation. They are certain to have readings but we are being told nothing." He said a radiation release was suspected "but at the moment it is impossible to know. It was the same at Chernobyl, where they said there was a bit of a problem and only later did the full extent emerge."
