Japan: 9.0 Earthquake-Tsunami-Nuclear Reactor Developments #1

As if the threat of a Tsunami isn't bad enough, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake occurred at the southern part of Kilauea Volcano at 10:58pm HST.

Hasn't the Kilauea Volcano been especially active this past week or so? Thought I saw something about it on the news a day or two ago.

So the Western USA has been upgraded from a watch to a warning? Oh boy.

Yes it is, fortunately you have several hours to prepare. Praying for you all!

I am crying watching Al Jazeera live video-prayers for all over there and our friends and everyone on the West Coast and Hawaii, I hope everyone is able to check in later today and let us know they are ok.

They think I am being paranoid of course. I made my daughter watch the footage on CNN just now because she thought she was going to Zuma Beach in Malibu with all her surfer dude friends tomorrow. She still thinks I am overreacting though.

It will probably be nothing here, but better safe than sorry.

CNN says the NWS is saying that damage is EXPECTED in N California and Oregon.

Not usually. Think of dropping a rock in a lake, the initial ripples are large then get smaller as they travel. That's the way it was described on CNN, anyways.

And of course my DH had said he would go with them and check it out, he thinks it sounds 'neat.'
Early AM I will remind them it is THE BIGGEST TSUNAMI in recent history.

Yes nora, 100's of earthquakes a week and an overload of VOG which is causing a lot of health problems when it builds up because the trade winds shift and don't blow it directly out to sea but over the island chain.

Experts say if a tsunami were to take place, it would occur sometime between 8-9AM Friday.

That is an incredibly powerful earthquake. We're under a tsunami advisory in san diego, but it doesn't sound like they expect much damage. I'm sending all of my good thoughts to everyone in the path of the tsunami and to everyone in Japan and the areas directly effected by the quake.

National Weather Service says tsunami wave measured at Midway Island is 2.5 meters (8.2 feet).


4-5 foot wave reported through Midway toward Hawaii

My friend Maribel works in downtown Tokyo. She would have been just leaving work or preparing to walk out the door when the quake hit. She is 7 months pregnant.
The reports are that downtown Tokyo is mainly unscathed. I'd still feel better if she'd answer her phone, but I'm watching her facebook like a hawk, as well as her family's pages, since apparently no one can get through to her. Some cell phones are starting to come back up, but hers isn't one of them. Internet in Tokyo is not down, as far as we know, just a lot of overloaded servers.
