"called catastrophic failure of reactor core".. just typing what they just read as breaking news..

What does that mean?

So let me see if I have this right? Cooling systems in reactors 1, 2, and 3 have now failed. They are releasing pressure (and therefore low level radiation) from 1 and 3, for sure, and possibly 2 as well?

But there's nothing to fear, right? Everything is under control. Don't mind that explosion, just go back in what is left of your home, and breathe through a wet cloth for no reason. Don't mind the fact that it's freezing and you might not even have water to wet that cloth...We have sea water and gasoline, that'll be fine. We'll be fine.

By the way, they are finally officially saying that a "catastrophic failure of the reactor core spurring the potential release of widespread radiation" is possibly underway as I type. In other words, it's melting down...potentially.

The ambassador is saying that there is no evidence of a meltdown.

I don't believe the ambassador.

The ambassador from Japan is obfuscating. mo

Yeha what Quiche said.. I couldn't elaborate because they went to break right after saying it was melting down LOL

Those poor poor people. Even my two older teens cried with empathy last night (almost 18 and almost 16). These chain of events are just horrific. I'm just stunned and reeling with concern for all of those people. :(

Sorry I know that doesn't further the current conversation but I just had to say it. :(

That the #1 reactor is going to melt down, releasing a lot of radiation.

This is the reactor where the building blew up. They are pumping boric acid and seawater to stop it.

Host just said the sea water is a type of hail mary......sounds about right

I don't believe what the ambasador is saying... :(

This ambassador guy is making me crazy!

I think the government is in panic mode. What I'm hearing over and over from the government statements is basically:
We're fine. Don't worry, don't panic.
DON'T WORRY. We're fine, don't panic.
Don't worry, DON'T PANIC, REMAIN CALM.
Okay, worry a little, BUT DON'T PANIC.

All spoken in calm voices, with words that say, ALRIGHT, GO AHEAD, PANIC, WE ARE.

Alright #1 is the one they say is melting down...
This is talking about #3

"Reuters reports that the Fukushima nuclear plant has also lost the emergency cooling system at its No 3 reactor, according to the Japan Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency. This requires the facility to urgently secure a means to supply water to the reactor a Japanese official said. The safety agency also warned that the number of individuals exposed to radiation from the plant could reach as high as 160.

Meanwhile Associated Press is reporting the International Atomic Energy Agency as saying that Japan is evacuating 170,000 people from the area around the Fukushima nuclear plant"

I just watched on our news that a Canadian organization Global Medic is deploying to Japan. The guy said they haven`t encountered a radiation issue in the past and he doesn`t know how they will deal with it, except to move his people out if it becomes a danger. Ummm, isn`t it just by definition a danger ...

Anyway, bless the people of Japan, bless the animals, and bless the volunteers who are flying there to help!

The ambassador is "saving face." The answer is in his expression. He's worried.
