I think the problem is that no one knows how far the radiation could go, because with all the different plants and reactors, no one really knows how much could be realeased.
Some seem to be thinking that it's better to put the warnings out there than just wait and see and some seem to think that they should be quiet about potential risks until they have more info, probably trying to avoid panic and people hoarding supplies.

I'm thinking it has a lot to do with ground level radiation-- as in the partial meltdown and leaks, versus a total meltdown with a large groundwater explosion propelled into the upper atmosphere and trade winds. jmo

OH MY GOSH! is right!!! I have NEVER, EVER seen anything like this! AMAZING! EERIE!! and the calmness of the man makes it even more chilling.
Thank you for posting this; not pretty but utterly fascinating. Again , my heart goes out to the people of Japan...and others from around the world who are there or are going there to help.......over and over they are in my thought / prayers.

I hit thanks and started to watch it but had to turn it off.....gotta' take a break from the visuals.....and almost feel guilty that I can when there is no break for the people there for a long time.
Odd choice of words, huh? there is so much 'broken" there right now. I pray it stops breaking soon.

Did I kill the thread ?

Heavens no - you :rocker:

It's relatively quiet on the newsfront -- another odd thing. No earthquakes for the last hour, no news on the nuclear front, not much of anything.

The IAEA said investigators in Japan found radiation levels have returned to normal at the Onagawa nuclear power plant.

Not sure I can believe normal levels returned so quickly. However, I'm no expert, nor do I assume to be. But my hinky meter is bobbing up and down ;)

So according to Japan - everything is fine, don't worry, don't panic. It's all goooood.

Hugs,

Mel

Just got back from dropping hubby at the airport and there was a group of search and rescue people there getting ready to goto Japan 12 or 15 of them.

I also saw quite a few soldiers in full gear flying out.. not sure if they were part of a mobilized unit or just heading back from R&R or something......

Looking at the pattern, this is awfully odd. Quakes don't just stop like that do they? I would think not, as there still a lot of adjusting to do. After all, the shore moved 8 feet! I would expect often, smaller tremors...

This is worrisome :(

Mel

Hi Mel, It is odd, but maybe it is due to the volcano that erupted in Japan today? All I know is all earthquake activity is connected by the movement of the plates in the ring of fire.

Big Hugs

Something I just remembered.Last week the volcano in Hawaii was very active. I guess there were lots of signs something was happening underneath.

The volcano in Hawaii has been more active for about 2 years now.
