So here is my question:

Since it appears that the West Coast is being sent large amounts of KI (potassium iodide) AND our gov't now knows that the situation is FAR worse than we have been led to believe---does this mean they are changing their stance on the possibilty of radiation affecting the US???? And WHERE THE HELLO IS OUR COMMANDER IN CHIEF??????? He NEEDS to be on the tube right now----b/c people in this country are slowly waking up to this disaster and how it might affect us.

Just saw on CNN.com live feed they will be using a police water truck to spray water into the reserve pool of the reaction. The truck will spray from the ground instead of helicopters which were doing from above. They said there's an opening in the wall above the reserve pool which would allow the water to enter.

THIS IS A LAST DITCH EFFORT THAT HAVE NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE.

That may, sort of, answer our question, "Why the police?". Because it's their equipment, so they know how to operate it.

NG setting up to talk with Anderson Cooper.

I just searched on "potassium iodide" on ebay and came up with 767 results, various sizes and dosages. examples:

14 tabs @130mg=$60.00
200 tabs@ 65mg=$500.00

AC seems to be saying there is no more survivors left to find.. the way he's talking...

Anderson Cooper says US states the nuclear issue is worse than what Japan is saying. And the search and rescue issue with the homeless. Two difficult challenges. More than 8,000 people still missing. Not like Katrina or Haiti, people were carried for miles so people that lived in one neighborhood can be found 5 miles away. Says you walk and never even know what you are walking on. Freezing cold temps. (Talking too fast for me to type).

Man, this is such a horror. (my comment)

Shelters lacking food and water.

partially bald dude on CNN right now at 8:24 pm ET(sorry---don't know his name---and even with the thinning hair he is attractive---please, don't be angry with me those of you with hair concerns) is now airing the interview that he just had with the Japanese PM spokesperson and he is GRILLING this guy. The spokesperson is repeating no comment. Completely unhelpful. I cannot believe that he just said that they are commited to providing all fo the information that they have. OMG.

how do we know that they are sending large amounts to the west coast? I live in So. Cal and there is really not a whole lot of local coverage on this issue, they are talking about the struggles of the people in japan, but just little bits about people worried about the radiation coming here...what I have heard from on local news etc...is that the chances of anything coming here are very very slim...

I'm not sure what the president could actually say at this point that others haven't said...I don't think anyone knows what the final outcome is going to be here, and i'm sure he's not going to go on tv with a bunch of what if's...jmo

That's what I thought was said, I was focusing more on his diagram. It's a bit difficult to hear the person speaking in Japanese with the translator speaking over him. They need to adjust the sound.

The gist is that the water was going to be sprayed over and into, onto the reserve pool. I wish they'd post the diagram online.

They just replayed it. I heard correctly, there is a hole on the side above the reserve pool. There is also a hole in the roof where the helicopters were attempting to drop the water.

I have screencaps. Give me a few minutes to get them posted.

NG wondering why no mass exodus trying to get out. Reporter says the airports are very crowded. On streets of Tokyo, things are eerily quiet.

  • #171
AC says people are trying to leave. A lot of people can't leave as they have no place to go. There is a huge crisis of confidence in the Japanese government, per AC.

From the IAEA home page at their site:

"Given the fast-changing situation in Japan, the Director General was unable to announce the itinerary for his trip. He expects to be in Japan for a short amount of time and then return to Vienna."

Yeah, um, guessing at what he knows, he will likely make this the shortest visit possible given the levels of radiation.

I'm sure you're right. It's the fact that there's a hole from the rods to the outside that is scaring the poo out of me as

no hole = contained
hole = no contained

er, NO. Vitamins can be dangerous when you take to many of them. Not a good idea. Some vitamins have lethal levels. I'm not a Dr., nor do I play one on tee vee, but I know vitamins can be poison.

Hi, Do you play anyone on tee vee? LOL We used to have a poster who was in a soap. Sorry for the OT :innocent:

Analysis: Japan nuclear crisis reaches new levels

Excerpt:
Japan's nuclear crisis may have taken its most dangerous turn yet after a U.S. official said one of the pools containing highly radioactive spent fuel rods at the stricken plant had run dry.

and

"If they don't get water to these spent fuel pools in view of the containment breaches in the other plants the actual radiation releases could approach that category of Chernobyl," said Victor Gilinsky, who was an NRC commissioner at the time of the Three Mile Island accident in 1979, which was the worst nuclear accident in U.S. history.

DANCE, DANCE, DANCE...In my not so humble (right now) opinion.

Here is a copy of my Facebook post today:

Dear Gregory Jaszko, Nuclear regulator Commission,
Your evasiveness screams LIES! If you can not or will not tell us here in the US the truth find a more believable liar to speak for the commission! Better yet...tell the truth! We can handle it! I promise.

Disinformation is worse than no information.

When a five year old is lied to, or when everybody in the house knows some horrible truth, except the five year old...THAT FIVE YEAR OLD KNOWS SOMETHING IS WRONG! Often times, what the child imagines is wrong is worse than the truth.

Mr. Jaczko,
I AM NOT FIVE
===========
Here is a copy of a FB post I made the day before yesterday:

"The kids are saying none of their friends that usually play online games from Japan are posting. Is anybody finding anything since 11:13 this am out of Japan besides a few feel good stories?"

"The kids are asking questions about censorship. Said their friends were posting yesterday...maybe power problems they did not have yesterday? How do I explain that the live feeds all seem to be down and CNN looped everything all day until just now with the recent tweet about a blast heard? People on Youtube are complaining of censorship when they upload video from there now."

=========
From 11:13 a.m. on Monday until the reactor blew around 8 p.m. (EST) there was virtually nothing and all of the news was on a loop.

I can not possibly be the only person who noticed this.
============
A friend in Japan posted this (today): ",no news here...but I like that CNN-J is pulling the sheets off of the stories that are being covered up. The plant didn't even contact the Japanese government immediately after the explosion. Can you believe... that?? Well, management there has a record off covering up the bad things that happen. Looks like what is catching up with them is going to affect all of us. These plants, for the most part, service Tokyo residents...but they don't want them in their own backyards. So, we country folk are left with them in our areas."
So... It shows that it is not just our govt. Have to look uo CNN-J & watch that stuff.

In my earlier post I was told by 7 different companies (4 were Vitamin supply stores and 3 were pharmacies) that the company had sent their stock of KI to the West Coast and overseas. Do I know this for a fact? NO. I am just passing on what I was told. I do know that last night, for the first time that I saw, CNN had a story on how KI was "flying off the shelves".

As to the Prez not saying anything b/c the gov't does not know anything---1. Personally, I do not believe that---that is just my OPINION. Not based on fact. 2. I have no problem with the CinC saying just that ----"we are evaluating the data as we receive it and have decided to obtain as much information as we can regarding this situation in Japan. However, I want the country to know that we consider this to be of utmost importance and will do all we need to do to ensure the safety of our citizens. As more information is obtained we will continue to make that available .....yada, yada, yada" or words to that effect. AGAIN---this is just my OPINION and how I feel.

U.S. boosts radiation-sniffing system

Excerpt:
Commercial sales of Geiger counters are, um, hot in the United States — but EPA's RadNet provides a much more reliable read when it comes to detecting radioactive fallout if it ever comes across the Pacific. The radiation-monitoring network not only sniffs the air, but also samples drinking water, milk and precipitation. The first elements of the system were set up back in 1959, even before the EPA was created, to monitor U.S. military nuclear testing.
