Of course, I don't know if they mean this most recent round or if they are referring to the first time they tried this, but I am really sick of getting Wednesday's news when we know it's Thursday over there already.

So... what we were seeing in pics is, once again, old news?

I think that the water drop photos are current, however, this was the second time that they had tried to do that, since they couldn't complete it yesterday, due to the radiation...and they were only able to make one drop today. No word on why, and I can't imagine why, because the radiation is going down, remember?

Who are these "U. S. officials?" How can ABC News write a story and not name their sources?

"Urgent efforts are needed on the part of the Japanese to restore emergency operations to cool" down the reactors' rods before they trigger a meltdown.

"They need to stop pulling out people—and step up with getting them back in the reactor to cool it. There is a recognition this is a suicide mission," the official said."

I'm totally baffled by this article. Who are the officials? Who are they to demand another country send people into a suicide operation? Why don't these "officials" volunteer for the job? Why didn't the U. S. have people in place Day 1 in Japan to help decide what to do if they don't like how this country, hit by the worst disaster to face mankind, handles the situation while trying to care for ten's of thousands of refugees, who are hungry, thirsty, wet and cold? Uggghhhh....

Born 10/1962, accident was March, 1979 so that means he was.......(late at night, brain is a foggy mess, give me a minute :waitasec: ) 16 1/2 years old.

You know, once you start thinking this way it makes you wonder about other stuff. But, as you rightly stated, possible----but not confirmed. I just remember being so surprised when he told me this (I am a nurse so I do have a pretty good amount of medical knowledge).

IMO, what we are witnessing right now is not a Chernobyl-like event (which was a huge blast of radioactive material into the atmosphere all at once), but a time-released type of event - where radioactive material is being released slowly, day by day, as these spent fuel rods in these unprotected pools continue to overheat & release their radioactive by-products into the atmosphere.

Make no mistake - this will have long term consequences for the surrounding areas of the power plant & for all those in proximity to the plant. I think we're all aware of that reality.

But here's the thing: this radiation is going somewhere. It is going into the air, which moves. It is going into the sea, who is not still.

This radiation is not taking a sojourn in Fukushima.

This radiation is traveling.

This radiation is death.

The people of the world need to be informed.

The people of the world have the right to know.

I don't think any of us are really surprised that they are NOW saying it is traveling this way, but what I REALLY want to know is since the "experts" said it wasn't going to, do those "experts" have any idea what the levels are that aren't coming this way? KWIM?

4.08am (1.08pm JST): Reuters is reporting that the US government has authorised the voluntary departure of the family members of embassy staff. The State Department is also chartering aircraft to Tokyo to help Americans leave Japan, it says.

Given the growing concern, it is worth a reminder that we have a piece looking at what the radiation levels actually mean.

And, as we have said, the bigger issue for many survivors right now is the inadequate supply of food, fuel and medicine.

Whenever the tube is on, I am going back and forth b/w several stations---always CNN and MSNBC and sometimes Fox. I am also on the computer all the time. I finally asked my husband tonight "how come you don't seem interested in what is happening over there?". He said "they won't ever tell you the truth about the true danger and there is nothing I can do about it (other than donating financially---which we have already done)." I was just really shocked b/c he is normally a "don't sweat it, we'll figure it out, it's not really as bad as you think" kind of guy. Plus he is the most honest person I know---and his usual thought about other people is that they are honest and decent too. So this really surprised me. But you know what? I think he may be spot on. I don't like to think that people (esp. leaders) aren't being forthcoming, but it sure feels that way. Wouldn't it be great if all of the people involved in this terrible tragedy had to wear a portable lie detector??? Maybe then we would know we were being told the truth.

Reactor #1: 70 tons of fuel/50 tons in spent fuel pool

Reactor #2: 90 tons/100 tons in SFP

Reactor #3: 90tons/90 tons in SFP

Reactor #4: 90 tons/130 tons in SFP (may be dry)

Reactor #5: 90 tons/160 tons in SFP

Reactor #6: 130 tons/150 tons in SFP


Phew, now I wonder how much is in that pool at ground level?
