American woman missing in Japan threatened suicide, husband says

(CNN) -- The husband of an American woman, who has been missing for six weeks in Japan, said Thursday that she had threatened to kill herself the night she disappeared after the two argued.

Vince Abad, an airman at a major U.S. Air Force facility in Japan, said he and his wife, Kelli, had fought over the phone on the night of October 26 after he had gone to see their pastor, who had helped resolve disputes between them in the past.

When he returned home, his wife was gone and their two children were in bed.

"We'd had arguments before -- it didn't feel too out of place," Abad, 30, said. He said he assumed she had gone to stay with a friend.

Two days later, the wife's car, a Toyota SUV, was found at Cape Zanpa on the island of Okinawa, about 10 miles from the base, with her cell phone and purse inside.
Also inside the car was a note, Abad said, that read, "Love my kids, love my hubby and parents. Bye."
Cape Zanpa is known locally as a place for committing suicide, Abad said.

I'm confused about the cellphone and purse - so she did take those with her, but left them in the car...with the "note".

It's reported that the 27-year-old missing mother vanished leaving behind her passport, cell phone and purse. This indicates that she was not intending on being gone from her home for long, and it certainly indicates that wherever she is right now, she's not anywhere where she can make use of these things.

The Japanese police, the fire department and coast guard have searched caves and cliffs in the area but have found no trace of her, the police have said. The U.S. military has been helping with the search.

What a cryptic article. Does the mother mean she didn't pick up her son from daycare and her daughter from school? What's the deal about the car issues?

Why does she not mention the suicide note, and whether it appeared to be her daughter's handwriting?

Why doesn't she have access to her emails and phone records?

JMO, I don't find it hinky that we hear about the suicide possibility now. We hear about the whole case a little late so there's no telling what the family might have discussed with LE from the beginning. If the note was found in the car the idea must have been floating out there since the car was found and probably not something he just now came up with.

I understand if families do not want to make the possible suicidal intentions and issues with depression, relationship woes etc. public as long as it's feasible that the missing person might be found safe.

The family is "always hoping for the best -- that she's out there," Abad said. But they are also aware of the possibility that his wife "might have decided to leave us on her own terms."

"Right now, she's a ghost," he said.

I find it a bit unusual he refers to his missing wife as a ghost.

The day of October 26, she had a Dr. appointment, had car issues and had to pickup her daughter from school and little boy from child care," she continued.

Here is an article (blog really because examiner usually aggragates info from MSM sources and writes up an entry, which is why I don't use them as MSM but I brought this here because it seems as though a family member or someone close to the family may have provided info for the blog/article, take it with a grain of salt is my recommendation).

I agree with the mom, this doesn't really make sense to me. Unless Kelli had a "history" of mental issues, emotional upsets that others were aware of, I don't think it makes a hill of beans sense that this is a suicide (note nonwithstanding)

Suicide cases usually have a cry for help prior to such deeds when little children are involved, it's not an easy thing to leave.
I don't believe this young woman left those 2 babies in their home alone while she left the house with a flimsy "goodbye" to all note.

Just doesn't pass the smell test.

Caveat: UNLESS the mother or a best friend someone she confided in, knows of past suicide cries for help .

Just "in my opinion".
