Some states allow a private attorney to represent an indigent defendant as long as they charge a rate the state finds reasonable. I think the law firm who gave Jason the advice to keep his mouth shut to everyone and that he should default on the civil suits should step up.

JMO

Yes, I know. In fact, NC is one of those states. Klinkosum went into private practice in 2010.

But it is not the same. It should be, but it isn't.

Are you thinking that the first attorney gave him bad advice?

Did you ever creep upstairs and brutally beat someone to death? Would you have murdered someone in the midst of your botched robbery? Murdered them then taken nothing? Hit them on the head 30 times? Would any of your colleagues do that? And if they or you had would you have not had the heart to murder the child?

Things were taken. Where do you guys come up with this stuff?

Pat Young revealed that the family found a cigar humidor when they cleaned out the Young home after the murder.

The testimony bolstered part of her son's alibi in which he testified that, after being seen on hotel security video shortly before midnight on Nov. 2, that he went outside to smoke a cigar.

I agree no one in the article said he smoked cigars but he did have some, I'm pretty sure in his testimony, MY bought them for him.

BTW, No one would call me a smoker but I have smoked on very rare occasions over the years and a few cigars too. :)

Yeah a humidor that had the company's name that he use to be a rep for. That doesn't mean he bought it. For example, the reps that come to my office often bring us items like: pens, pads, envelope openers...etc. heck I just got a cork screw from one and it has the name of the rehabilitation facility on it. IMO, more than likely that humidor was a bonus to give out to his clients.

Why not touch her purse? Why not take any of the electronics? To me it was staged. IMO.

Testimony by more than one witness was the crime scene (specifically as a burglary) appeared staged because obvious valuables downstairs were not taken, the things that burglars are most attracted to. The items in the jewelry box were negligible in value compared to the ring that was removed from the victim's finger. Further, the "burglar" likely attended to the toddler child--something investigators, defense team, and state all allege occurred.

And, no report of theft was filed with the insurance company. The remaining live homeowner never declared anything was stolen.

They went up the back stairs and did not see her purse. Why take electronics when you have gotten high value jewelry and you have killed MY?

No one said he bought it. Why keep it if you don't use it? Remember, MY was organized and Type A. Those kind of people don't keep stuff laying around that is not used.

Makes sense to me that the female burglar would take care of the child.

There was a female burglar (in addition to another burglar)? Who was this female burglar? What evidence points to a female being in the house at the time of the murder?

Yes. CB saw them leaving the house.

That doesn't make any sense to me. Burglars put a cap on what they will steal? They were satisfied? They walked past her purse and never even rifled through it? Took time to clean up the child?

Like I said, they did not walk by her purse. Do burglars always steal everything available in a house? A female cleaned up the child.

She did?

I thought her testimony was she saw a man (wearing a wedding ring) in the drivers seat and what she believes was a female with bushy hair in the passenger seat in a soccer-mom type van, driving out, facing forward, at the end of a driveway coming onto Birchleaf that she believes was the Young residence? Where did she see them actually leaving the house itself?

Did they find female DNA on CY? (Other than her own, MYs or MFs, of course).

Respectfully, how do you know the path this burglar took in the house? I don't remember any testimony or evidence showing a specific path they took. And what evidence exists that identifies the gender of the person who cleaned up CY?

Something jova33 raised and I hadn't considered before, if the burglar was on drugs, this would be a completely reasonable explanation for the excessive beating of MY. There is an assumption that any burglar would be of sound mind, but in fact someone who is drugged up would lack both self control (hence the excessive force) and judgement. This would completely demolish the opinion that the "perp had an emotional attachment to the child and rage against the victim".

But wouldn't there be more evidence of "some random intruder". Some people seem to forget that the "cigarette butts and the unknown" fingerprints were found by Mr. Godwin, a PI. So, my question is, if this were so important why not have him testify??

I remember this issue coming up in a motion at trial. The defense had hoped to put Godwin on the stand to testify but there was no legal chain of custody on the items he found.

Correct, they were in their car, leaving the residence after slaughtering MY. I wonder if she was raped?

Wasn't there a blood smear on the kitchen doorknob?

Hmmm, so instead of going directly to the purse laying on the floor right by the entry door in plain view downstairs, the "burglar" decided to go upstairs to where the sleeping people were. Because running into people when you're burglarizing is the best strategy. Forget about the cash people usually keep in their wallet (in a purse on the floor right in plain view). Take 2 drawers of (crappy) jewelry instead. Because jewelry box drawers are so easy to shove in your little burglar pockets.
