New Orleans Cold Case:

The 2010 Murder of Comedian Jeremy Alexander

New Orleans, Louisiana: On Sunday, May 2, 2010, stand-up comedian Jeremy Daniel Alexander tragically lost his life from an of act of violence at his home in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans.

Jeremy was discovered by his wife, Renee, around 11:24 PM in their home on the 6300 block of Spain Street. According to early reports, she immediately called 911 upon finding him sitting upright in a chair with a bullet hole in his face. Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after, but Jeremy was pronounced dead.

No firearm was recovered at the scene, according to statements from Jeremy’s family.

Jeremy was just 32 years old. A proud father, husband, son, and brother, he left behind a two-year-old daughter, his wife Renee, and many loved ones.

Originally from Meridian, Mississippi, he graduated from Clarkdale Attendance Center in Meridian in 1996 and later received his bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.

He worked as a copy editor before moving to New Orleans in 2003. He made his living working at Barnes & Noble in Metairie, but his true passion was stand-up comedy.

He performed frequently at Carrollton Station and other venues across the city, drawing inspiration from comic books, 1980s pop culture, and TV shows like Doctor Who, The A-Team, and Lost. His comedic influences included George Carlin and Zach Galifianakis.

Jeremy's sister, Jillian, remembers him as “the sweetest, funniest brother a girl could ask for.”

His obituary described him as a "writer, comedian, and master of tomfoolery," someone who embraced life fully and made others laugh loudly and often.

Unfortunately, Jeremy's death remains unsolved. In recent years, some who knew him have raised concerns about the lack of follow-up and attention his case received, citing possible issues with police misconduct and mismanagement in the initial investigation.

In a 2025 interview, a former classmate described it as a case that seemed to be “brushed under the rug.”

Sources close to the case indicate that two brothers, reportedly acquaintances of Jeremy, are considered persons of interest in his unsolved homicide (they have not yet been publically identified). Jeremy’s family and friends would like anyone with information to please come forward.

Jeremy deserves justice, and his memory deserves to be honored.
