Geraldine "Jerrie" Mock, the first woman to fly solo around the world, has died at her home in Quincy, Florida, age 88. She was nicknamed the 'Flying Housewife'.

She completed her historic, 23,000 mile journey April 17th, 1964.

"Nobody was going to tell me I couldn't do it because I was a woman," she told the Associated Press earlier this year.'

Oh, my! This brings back memories. I believe it was the summer of 1964, and I flew to Ohio from FL to visit my grandmother for the summer. She took me (all of 8 yrs old!) to hear Mrs. Mock to speak of her flight experience. My grandmother appreciated women with strong constitutions!
