I, too, was hoping this was along the lines of making fun of the industry in some way, however, my husband showed me this clip from David Letterman's show this past week and Joaquin really seems impaired (paranoid and just plain out of it). It's very scary to see someone spiraling in a dangerous direction such as this. I hope he can pull himself back!

I watched that earlier this week. I don't know if it was really impaired or just taking the act to the 'enth' degree? Still laying my possessions on the table here. I could be homeless soon.

It's just so hard to tell...so very hard to tell for me. He has an interesting background and persona but this is all so odd for me to comprehend.

The little piece in me is very concerned that it's for real, that he's had a true break from reality. Which in my books, extends all the way back to their religious up bringing and the crimes of that particular following. I have to wonder what the Phoenix children went through years back.

That's kind of what I was thinking as well. I would like to think that they escaped that...but maybe they didn't. He does not talk about the death of his brother much and I am sure that affected him greatly, especially him being there.

Offhand you want to know what I was reminded of when I saw this a while back?

Andy Kaufmann skit.

I don't think that Joaquin is an Andy, I think he might just be having break with reality.

But it still made me think of Andy. (Yeah, Yeah , Yeah , Yeah ~singing REM man in the moon.)

He does seem way "off" but anybody else think Dave went a bit too far? I found myself cringing when Joaquin said, "Oh, this is fun?" and also when Dave said, "I'll chew gum at your house." You can tell Joaquin is getting angry. Whatever else, he has done some brilliant roles, truly. I hope he is alright.

I've watched the clip as well and it seems he's very lucid. If you see the short snippet they put on tv, that shows quite a different story but seeing the clip in its entirety shows a man who is having fun playing a role, IMO...

He's quick with the comebacks when he wants to be, he smirks when he remains silent, he definitely gives many multiple worded answers compared to what TV was trying to promote... only saying yah, no.

I think Dave knew what it was all about too. Time will tell, I hope soon because if it is a joke, it's getting old.
