ETA (Mormon underwear now look much more like knee length underwear than than used to . .. they used to be one piece units with a big vertical slit in the back. On the tee shirts they have tabs over each nipple (extra fabric sewn in a square), tab over navel, and tabs above the knees on the drawers. Women's are now two piece garments and usually have cap sleeves on the tops. These are worn underneath the bra (and underpants) and are worn all of the time except to bathe. They are to protect LDS people (I have heard from gunshots and knife wounds in some cases) by divine power. They are also to set themselves apart from others who are not of the faith and to keep remindful of their commitments to their religion. (ie: the tab over one knee is to remind them to keep prayerful) The capsleeves and long length of the female garments are so women won't wear clothing that could expose the garments - therefore keeping them modestly covered. This information is from my own experience growing up in a LDS home.
