The friends smelled it at the front door (actually garage entrance)

I get it doesn't have any real bearing on this case...but it's interesting that when the friends came over they smelled the odor immediately upon going into the house. But, someone in the next room over didn't smell a thing.

JMO but the people coming over to Travis's home were apprehensive and on alert about why he wasn't answering attempts to reach him. He had missed a vacation that he had talked about going to. Meanwhile the roommate may have gotten used to the vague odor. I can't imagine the odor being so strong at that point. I think the water tight shower stall door must have kept alot of the smell in that enclosure.

I love cats but I have gone over to other people's homes and nearly fell over from the smell of ammonia? Meanwhile the residents seem oblivious to it.

Guess what I am trying to say is that I don't think the roommate had anything to do with Travis's killing and therefore there must be an explanation on why he didn't call 911.

Does anyone know what time (EST perhaps?) the trial starts again today (Jan 3)?

  • #323
It's 9:07 AM in AZ, so I would assume anytime now (12:07 PM EST, 8:07 PST).

Unless this is anything like the Elizabeth Johnson trial -- then who knows what time they will start.

Scheduled for 12:30. Actual start time? Unknown. Yesterday it was after 1:00. The judges do other cases in the morning and may run over-time.

This was the experience we had with the Tammi Smith and Elizabeth Johnson's trials.

Oh good night - 12:30?? This trial is gonna take forever!

ETA: the judge gave smith and johnson off with a slap on the wrist. It doesn't give me much hope in this case. AZ sucks as far as I'm concerned!

EJ will serve 2 1/3 years in prison for the death/or disappearance of her young child. However, she could get released in 1.25 years if she has good behaviour.

Great system, eh. But that's just my opinion.

I have a feeling Jodie may get off, stranger things have happened. Her worst enemy is herself with her statement no jury will convict. Will this come back to haunt her?

I agree with those who say this is not a DP case. Call Jodie a nutcase, yes, a psycho girlfriend, yes. But Jodie arrived at 3 am, much more inline with a bootie call than a planned murder. I know they are claiming that they did not have sex until they woke up at 1 pm the following day but I believe they did the night before as well. Just because they say Travis watched Youtube does not mean sex did not take place before bed.

What I would be curious about and that is, did Jodie ever take her gun on previous outings or get togethers? Clearly imo this looks like a case of second degree murder, with a lot of overkill and lies afterwards. I also think time helps Jodie, had she received a quick trial, I believe she would have been convicted quickly.

By far I am not a Jodie fan and I hope she does get convicted, she actually seems quite comfortable in her current surroundings.

As far as the camera goes, I could see Travis flying off the handle if it was dropped and brand new.

Guys like girls, like to flirt with danger, I think this was Travis's downfall, something about see her still was exciting.

I can't watch the trial but have been following this case on HLN. I understand the jury is made up of mostly men. Hope they're smart enough to see right through this psychopath. Oh and HLN keeps referring to her as "beautiful". To each his/her own but she's far from beautiful, imo.

I hate to hear that the jury is made up of men. How in the world did the PT let this happen?

I hope that I am wrong about this, but this truly could affect the case! I don't mean any disrespect to any males here reading, but males sometimes can be clueless when it comes to females. I've seen it in my personal life and I bet every female here reading can relate. I have known females who were downright BAD NEWS and I would point it out to a male and he would say "Oh, she doesn't seem to be that bad". I don't mean to make light of this, but men sometimes "think" with more than their brains. If she testifies with her little sweet kitten voice, it might be all over. I sure hope NOT!

I'm new to this case and it is fascinating for sure!! I too am surprised at the lack of interest here at WS.

And she is not pretty. Intriguing in the psycho aspect, yes, but physically attractive, no. Do they tell these defendants not to wear makeup? I noticed it with CA too. I find it odd that they wouldn't wear a little makeup. After all, pretty people tend to be more sympathetic, and most women look better with some makeup, so I would think her attorneys would consider this.

Is there a case archive anywhere? Some place with photos, video of her interviews (48 Hours or whatever they were), case documents, etc.? I did read the timeline Steely posted but I'd like to catch up more, if possible.

TIA!
She looks very different now...Jail has not been good to her, and I think the defense is trying to make her look as plain Jane as possible. This is what she looked like before:

I think by most standards she would have been considered a very striking woman.

Here is the HLN archive:

I'm not sure I understand the concern either. Two locked/shut doors, the master bedroom and the bathroom, plus the shower doors shut may well have kept any decomposing odors temporarily at bay. Plus maybe the roommate is a slob. Sorry but I believe some young people come with broken noses until sometime in their late 20's or 30's and sometimes never.

I think I read that the roommate was not home for the 4 days. Someone correct me please if I am wrong.

I disagree, rather chalk it up to bad prison hair care and wardrobe, I am sure with a wardrobe change and a decent stylist she would look much the same.

The biggest thing pointing to first degree murder, IMO, is that she called and reported her gun stolen about a week before she went to see Travis. That tells me she knew she was going to use it.

I think they used the DP as a bargaining chip, expecting her to plead down once she realized how damning the evidence against her was. I don't think the prosecutors ever expected her to take it to trial. I don't think she will end up getting sentenced to it.

It's pretty much standard to play down any type of attractiveness in a young female defendant. They WANT her to look like a victim. Poor Jodi was being victimized by TA, so that's why she ended up having to kill him in self defense.

If people familiarize themselves with the REAL JA, they will see that this woman is a true narcissist. She BELIEVES with all her heart that she has such power that no jury will convict her. People here on this thread - watch some of her interviews while she was incarcerated. Listen to her lies. She is a very dangerous person!

It's possible it worked for Robert Durst the millionare and he may have killed his wife and best friend too plus he chopped up his victim and threw him in the ocean and still all he was convicted of was improper disposal of a body, beats all I ever seen, so we shall see

I've been waiting for this trial to start. "No jury will convict me"? Yeah, we'll see.

The stream I was watching on yesterday isn't showing anything today...Is that because court just didn't start yet? If I'm not mistaken, the judge said yesterday that today they'd be starting around 8:30 or 9:30... Anyone have a reliable stream? Sorry if this has been asked millions of times, I don't post here often but I may have to start. ;)

Because this is Arizona. Do you know how many cases in Arizona are thrown by the wayside?

Gabriel Johnson (mom will probably serve another 1.5 years). This, while telling the baby's father that she threw him dead in a trash bin.

Max Shacknai and Rebecca Z. While this crime happened in San Diego, I do believe there was strong influence from AZ (just my opinion- I have no facts to back this up). The dad, is a respected businessman in AZ with lots of connections.

No Death Penalty For Bullhead City Couple Accused of Killing Newborn During "Brutal" Sexual Attack (Staci Lynn Barbosa and 24-year-old Jonathan Edward Vandergriff). This couple raped and killed this child and she rec'd 15 years in prison. Eh, 10 years if she's a good girl. I don't know what the guy got -- googled for a few minutes, then figured he wasn't worth my time.

I'm sure we could find many more - but I believe Jodi will either get off or a MS conviction. I don't think we'll be seeing any DP here.

Just my opinion - thanks!

Mel

I think it could go either way. If the pros puts on a good case, her looks won't matter. What she did to Travis was horrific. I'm hoping the men can somehow relate with the victim. Nobody deserves to die that way regardless of how good the sex was.
