I agree with this statement completely and, interestingly enough, my sister and I were having a conversation along these lines today. This, of course, doesn't mean specific people are homphobic, but it does speak , however subtly, to the fact that homosexuality is not yet considered as "normal" as heterosexuality.

There truth is, if we follow the stars, we are interested in who they're sleeping with!

Thank you. That's all I was trying to say.

I think in the cases of Neal Patrick Harris and David Hyde Pierce (and Jodie Foster, too), they weren't concealing anything. Their partnerships were well known in the gay community and there had been hints in the tabloids.

They just didn't feel a need to hold a press conference and "come out" formally. I agree with nan that they had no obligation to do so. But not because their sexuality is specially private.

None of these three made shows of dating members of the opposite sex for the benefit of the paparazzi.

Well, exactly. I can't say that I believe any of those people you named were in a closet. They were just living their lives and didn't feel the need to involve the world publically in their love lives. That's actually a stance I respect a great deal in "famous" people.

I think I understand the desire among certain members of the gay community to have public figures declare themselves "out," but there's a difference between cowering in the shadows out of shame or hypocrisy and being a private person. I have learned that coming out is empowering to some gay people and a non-issue to others - and there are, of course, many paths in between. Homosexuals are notiously diverse and damned difficult to pigeonhole.

I do agree with posters who said that Foster's public acknowledgment of her partner hardly seemed like a huge, political, OUT statement.

He was okay with it because he's already married to the hottest woman in the world. His fantasies can't hold a candle to his sweet, sweet reality!

Thank you. That's all I was trying to say.

"Heterosexuality isn't "normal" it's just common."
That is my favorite quote on the subject!

I love Jodie Foster! I'm glad she "came out", so to speak, since I think that
there is nothing shameful about being gay.

I actually find it silly when gay actors (Queen Latifah, Clay Aiken etc)
act coy when asked about their sexuality.
Come one! We see pictures of them with their partners all the time....
why not just come right out and say it?

true, most everyone knew she was gay a long time ago

I actually had no idea whatsoever :waitasec: . I guess I just never even think about an actors sexual preference.

...Homosexuals are notiously diverse and damned difficult to pigeonhole....

That statement would be SO offensive, if it weren't absolutely true. :D

All one needs do is attend any gay pride event (with the countless different groups that participate) and the notion of any one "gay agenda" becomes hysterically ridiculous.

(BTW, I assume you meant "notoriously," not "noxiously." :))
