Found Deceased John Hardy, 36. UK National missed his flight home, last contact was a distressed phone call to a family member, Benidorm 14 Dec 24.

A suspect in the disappearance of Belfast man John George skipped bail in Spain and flew back to Northern Ireland on the same flight as the missing man’s partner, it can be revealed

Speaking to the Irish News, Mr George told how he met the suspect in a public place in recent days.

“I told him straight, you shot my son dead,” he said.

Mr George said the man was later arrested by Spanish police and subsequently released

Just on the above. The 'suspect' was one of many individuals named at different times by the family on TikTok as being responsible for the murder of Hardy.

According to reports elsewhere that 'suspect' was interviewed by the police and not deemed a person of interest, and was unconditionally released, and therefore did not skip bail as he was never on bail. If the reporting elsewhere is accurate then this 'suspect' was also not in Spain at the time of Hardy's disappearance. And again if the reporting is accurate, the immediate family was aware of this individual being unconditionally released by the police prior to this flight.

-------------

As mentioned above, the family had named a number of individuals on TikTok as being responsible for Hardy's murder, including the Czech national currently under investigation and on bail. His solicitor has spoken out about his client being publicly named on social media without any evidence associating him with Hardy's disappearance and/or murder.

From today's Irish News:

This paragraph in the article now suggests that he was not lured to Spain to be murdered as the family had briefed the media on numerous occasions, but that his murder was the result of insulting a female.

Shot dead, his family believes, after a personal insult John directed towards a woman during a drink and drug fuelled argument at a house in Orihuela.

And then this article was published earlier this evening:

Within the article was this paragraph about the possibility of a second post mortem.

Importantly police confirmed today they will make enquiries towards seeing if it’s possible to have a second post mortem report on the deceased.

What did the first post mortem find/not find?

Spanish police have obtained information showing this easyJet flight from Alicante to Belfast was booked after he’d been killed, Belfast Telegraph reported.

The Metro have used more definitive wording than the article in the Belfast Telegraph (BT) they refer to.

The BT article says it is 'believed' that Hardy was shot dead some time on the 14th December, and the flight booked after that date. There has never been any official confirmation that he was actually shot on the 14th.

And then today, funeral cancelled until further notice.

Speaking to Sunday Life, Darren George said: “My brother was assassinated, it was premeditated, planned, that is what we believe to be the truth

Maybe it is good that this is the 'final media interview' the family do. This is about the third or fourth different explanation they have put out into the public of what they believe happened to John George/John Hardy, with no factual evidence to support any of them.

He said that as a precautionary measure and in order to make sure there was clarity on the cause of death "we have instructed another pathologist to conduct a second autopsy on Johns remains".

"Johns body will be home on Tuesday family only that day. Then everyone is welcome onwards. His funeral will be on Saturday, 9:00 mass at St Lukes Twinbrook,” she wrote.

“Finally get to put you to rest my beautiful brother.”

I have not seen this yet. The problem is things that have recently been leaked make some of this not accurate

A man arrested over the murder of John George has appeared at an extradition hearing at a court in Portugal.

Jonny Smyth, 26, had been named in international arrest warrants circulated by Interpol having fled Spain following John George's disappearance.

Mr George, from Belfast, went missing in Spain in December.

His body was found by Spanish police on 7 January in a remote lemon grove, having been stabbed and shot in the chest and face.

Mr Smyth, also originally from Belfast, was arrested in Portugal on Tuesday and is facing extradition to Spain.

The court heard that he had been staying in an apartment in the historic area of the city of Braga.

Portuguese police set up a surveillance operation before arresting Mr Smyth.

Appearing before the Guimarães Court of Appeal, Mr Smyth did not oppose the extradition.

It is expected that he will be extradited to Spain within 10 days.

Following the hearing he was remanded back into custody.
