Hugsssssssssssssssssssss!!!!
I am glad your son is ok and it wasn't worse than it could be. My heart breaks for them too. You sound like a very good mom and your son is lucky to have a wonderful support system when he needs it.
My prayers for you and your son too you seem like a really nice person.
Oh well thank you and you are very sweet. I am a good mom and I have 5 sons that will agree with me.... or else.
IMO, this is a horrible tragedy and no negligence is involved. Anyone who has children with ongoing medical problems understands the balance between trying to be/provide normal and treat illness at the same time. It is a delicate balance for the most part and anyone who loves their children will be doing all of that and more. The Travolta's have done everything possible to provide, protect and treat their child. He died despite their efforts.

Only God knows why a child is taken. But, it would be the worst pain on earth for parents. My prayers are with them and so many others that lose their children before their time. To me, that is the absolute worst thing that can happen to anyone.

A old lady told me something that is sticking. Babies are born and don't ask to be born. It is up to the parents to care for them and it is up to God to make sure all the tools are available. Sometimes they are and sometimes they aren't.
I so agree with you CP and you have really hit the nail on the head.
It is a fine line between keeping a child with health problems safe and creating normalcy in their life so that they may achieve their own potential, whatever that may be. I know it is the hardest thing I have ever had to do and I am not saying I have done it right all the time.

I think the media is going to sensationalize a tragic death of a loved child and it really is disappointing imo.

As the mother of an epileptic son, I made my decisions on his health care based on my own research ,doctor opinions and my son's very specific case. Presumably the Travoltas did the same thing.
Sometimes it just doesn't matter what precautions we take or don't take.

I feel so bad for this family it hurts. When I heard this news, I was caring for my own son that had just had a seizure. All i could do was cry, because I was sitting in a hospital room with my child when he had more chance of dying as a result of his seizure since he was driving a car, and they were sitting with their dead son and he was just in his home.

I know Bean and i felt the anguish you had from your words. It must be so difficult for you as I know you want him to have a happy normal life. And you take such good care of him. I think above all there has to be a constant prayer for God to always hold him in his hands.

I know I thought of you and your son racing to the Chargers game, and before the game was over and the camera panned out on the crowd, I smiled and thought, gee, I bet they are in that crowd just cheering away!

Yeah my husband was upset that the Chargers beat his Colts in the playoffs. But it was a good game and the better team won. The Chargers play my Steelers next.
But back to the topic I heard they are creamating Jett's body and he going back to Ocala to be buried.

I am so angry at shows like Entertainment Tonight. They had video of the EMT who rode to the hospital with the Travolta's giving an interview! He told them all about the scene and how they tried to revive him.

While I understand that his father is a celebrity, Jett was not. He is 16 years old and a minor and they should just tell the story and what info they are given by the Travolta family and let him rest in peace.

That man should be fired for violating patient's privacy, and the hospital should be fined. The Travolta's once they are past this immediate time of grief should sue them for it.

It's just terrible that the media has turned this into a media frenzy.

:clap:I totally agree!

Hi Pooky, I see no one started a thread on Larry King as he is covering Jett's death tonight.

Yes, they said he was cremated late afternoon and his ashes were put in an urn and I think they are flying back to Ocala {sp} now. There is a spokseman for the family who says he doesn't think the cremation hurried. The family just wanted it done right away.

The mayor of Ocola is on now, nothing is known about funeral plans yet.

I think Dr Cyril Wecht was the forensic pathologist on, and he said in his opinion the autopsy report must be a premature one as the tox results are not back yet - they couldn't be - and there are things like with the heart muscle that are not visible to the human eye that could be present.

Dr Wecht now is saying he doesn't feel the family did anything wrong. They were not concerned evidently about the forensic details of the death, only knew they had lost their son. And the timing of taking care of the body after death was their perfect choice to make.

Thanks for the kind posts. I just feel so bad when I hear stories like this.Sometimes it doesn't matter what precautions you take or what care you give them, sometimes it is luck of the draw.
My son is a good example. i did not medicate him for his epilepsy for many years and he stayed seizure free. Now that he is medicated he has break through seizures and meds are an ongoing game of trial and error. He has been seizure free for 2 years now on his current meds! This latest episode that landed him in the hospital revealed that my son also has undiagnosed and unchecked type 1 diabetes. This stress on his body sent him into a one of his seizures. So even though he is well cared for and should remain seizure free, his body has other ideas at the moment. He typically has his seizures in the shower and by the Grace of God has never hit his head. Now he has had one while driving and again he escaped with relatively minor injuries. His guardian Angel is working over time and for that I am so grateful.
This poor family, and God Bless Jett.

ETA: Hopefully he will get out of the hospital today..cuz we have tickets to the Charger-Colts game. We have our priorities straight :)

I'm so sorry to hear that. My son's type 1 diabetes wasn't diagnosed until just before his 18th birthday. He has managed it on his own for 9 years now, with only a few episodes of low blood sugar. I hope that your son's course of treatment is found quickly and that he is able to be seizure free again! :blowkiss:

I think a lot of people that are not familiar with seizure disorders have this same mistaken notion, that they can be 100% controlled in all cases.

I disagree. What we have heard from the lawyers and TMZ is that this child was treated with Depakote and taken off the drug because it didn't work...what we haven't heard is a neurologist tell us that this child was tested on other medications or combinations of medications and he truly had refractory epilepsy at the time of his death.

Yeah I read the creamation story on Yahoo a few minutes ago. If the actual cause of death was seizure I would think the family would want to do the best for him right away. But I see nothing that would not make the cause of death be a wrong diagnosis.

Yea Pooky, I agree with you. I also think that Dr Wecht listened to some other guests and then had to give his final thought he agreed, and everything done was right from a medical standpoint.

What do you disagree with? What I said was people don't understand that seizures cannot always be controlled and that is a fact.

I just hope that John and Kelly and their daughter can find peace and get through this horrible ordeal. Jett is with God now and he has no physical disabilities anymore and is not hurting or in pain. The rush was probably that they had nothing to contest.

  • #214
If Jett did have seizures often, why didn't he wear a protective helmet? I used to work with some clients who even with medication, did not have seizures controlled and they wore helmets to protect themselves for when they fell.

Hi Vegas Bride, On LKL tonight the spokesperson for the family stated there was no trauma to the head from hitting anything. They discussed that saying it kind of odd since it had been reported he hit his head. Evidently if he did it wasn't hard enough to cause bruising. And a bruise would have formed as he was alive and the effort to recusitate him was ongoing. That is just from what I have read ;}

Hi again Pooky ;}

That was the last thing I heard on LKL, that in their religion, upon death the focus becomes the spiritual persona of the person, and the body is only a vehicle that is gone. That isn't a very good transcription of what they said, but the same idea.

That is so true. I sure hope your son doesn't have any more, or there is a medication that will control them. Even so, I can't imagine the worry.

Are you familiar with John Roberts, the Supreme Court Justice; I think he recently had a seizure and has them now and then. Usually they aren't fatal.

I think Jett had alot of medical issues which probably made him more at risk.

It is a fact that they can't be 100% controlled.

What I disagree with is that 100% control is the mistaken belief of the posters here or the public as a whole...

I think the public is suspicious that this child did not receive the normal standard of care that a board-certified neurologist would provide because the parents are high ranking members of a group that denies neurological disorders exist or should be treated medically. Adding to the controversy is the insistence that Kawasaki's is involved (when experts say it doesn't do this) and the denial of the autism outright despite the testimony of numerous witnesses to the contrary.

Hi Martha. The seizures themselves aren't so bad, my son has zero recollection of them, so what does he care? LOL. It's just the risks of injury,SUDEP, and status that scare the snot out of me.
While my sons epilepsy is pretty well controlled, you never know and that right there is the problem. I had really just recently gotten used to him driving. his last seizure was 2 years ago before this week. So we certainly got complacent and felt his meds were 100% effective. So now they are 99%. It's not all that comforting because it only takes one bad one.

In the interview with the EMT which I posted a couple of pages back

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,475766,00.html

It says

Garvey said Jett has suffered an apparent hematoma, adding that there was not a lot of blood involved, though some was coming from his nose and mouth.
