John Travolta's son, autism and Scientology

The Travolta's must have been compulsive cleaners, especially their carpets. I spot clean mine when the situation arises, and weekly vacuum of course but that's it. No need for a bunch of carpet chemicals to make my kid sick.

I was thinking the same thing- how often did she clean them, or is she indicating it only takes 1 time?

That's a good question. I'd like to know.

IMO, IF their son has autism, and the cult doesn't recognize it, this could be a handy thing to blame his problems on.

Who knows they may just choose to not disclose it? I actually applaude stars who keep their kids out of the limelight since its the parents career not theirs. Even with treatment if this is true he may still not be speaking.

Regarding alternative treatments, I LIKE them. I would not be diagnosed today with celiac disease and still be having seizures every day if I had not researched it myself and took 2 years to convince dr's to run blood work on me because supposedly its so rare but yet my daughter and I both have it along with multiple family members. Its not rare, just rarely diagnosed properly. Regarding chemicals, Im not saying that is his problem but honestly I wouldnt put that crap on my carpet. We only use simple green and vinegar.

Just wanted to shout out that my teenage daughter was diagnosed with Celiac 2 years ago this month; she was relatively asymptomatic, but it was found when her pedi endocrinologist did a pre-screening for it as part of her annual diabetes blood workups. It appears a higher % of Type I diabetics have Celiac than the normal population. When the doctor called with the results, I had to have him repeat the name and spell it out, as I had never heard of it before.

We're now 2 years into her eating a gluten-free diet...and it's amazing how much better she's feeling (even though she didn't have the classic CD signs and symptoms).

I watched Kelly on Montel and she was with Olivia Newton John because she only uses this type of "all natural" cleaners in her home too and they are convinced that jett's issues are because of their golf course home they live on in Flordia. Also KP said she had gotten a bad sunburn when she was a child in Hawaii and she did this "cleansing" or something and it actually brought it all out. I found alot of what she said to be off the hook but at the same time I totally agree with the chemical issues in cleaners and what not. If their child is sick though I would hope they would get the proper help for the child.

I clean mine 3 to 4 times a year but only vinegar and water are used. Shoes track stuff in and I cannot convince my parents to take their shoes off or my inlaws  Its easy though, I own a cleaner and didnt want to use one of the dirty rentals. I do a room at a time and close the door, its pretty easy when you have it at home. For spot cleanings I use simple green usually. Only negative to it is it wears out the carpet a bit faster. You would be amazed how nasty it gets with just normal dust and dirt. Its also good for people with dust allergies.

We have a carpet cleaner too, but we only have carpet in our bedrooms. The rest of the house is tile and hardwood laminate. We usually go barefoot in the house, so our bedrooms just don't warrant a lot of cleaning that would need chemicals. Not saying never, just not enough that would make anyone sick as a result.

When I read the initial article on this thread, it seemed to be written from a biased, angry POV. It mentioned a few times about Kelly Preston being John Travolta's wife/beard. I think that we all have heard the rumors about JT over the years. I actually was at a taping of David Letterman when JT was a guest on the show. He is actually quite effeminate, IMO. I like him (other than the Scientology connection).

Well, while researching to post on the Scientology thread in the Jury Room, I found an interesting article about Scientology, which was originally posted in Time Magazine. Among other things, it says:

...Sometimes even the church's biggest zealots can use a little protection. Screen star Travolta, 37, has long served as an unofficial Scientology spokesman, even though he told a magazine in 1983 that he was opposed to the church's management. High-level defectors claim that Travolta has long feared that if he defected, details of his sexual life would be made public. "He felt pretty intimidated about this getting out and told me so," recalls William Franks, the church's former chairman of the board. "There were no outright threats made, but it was implicit. If you leave, they immediately start digging up everything." Franks was driven out in 1981 after attempting to reform the church.

The church's former head of security, Richard Aznaran, recalls Scientology ringleader Miscavige repeatedly joking to staffers about Travolta's allegedly promiscuous homosexual behavior. At this point any threat to expose Travolta seems superfluous: last May a male 🤬🤬🤬🤬 star collected $100,000 from a tabloid for an account of his alleged two-year liaison with the celebrity. Travolta refuses to comment, and in December his lawyer dismissed questions about the subject as "bizarre." Two weeks later, Travolta announced that he was getting married to actress Kelly Preston, a fellow Scientologist...

I wonder if the Church of Scientology set up the wedding of Kelly Preston and John Travolta. I always wondered why such an attractive woman would actually marry and stay married to a man who was gay. I know many people would say because of fame and money. However, I just don't buy that people would put those things over their happiness.

Does anyone think that John may want to seek out medical help for his son but may be afraid to do so because of what would be revealed about his personal life? Also, at this point and in this day and age, who cares if he is homosexual? Why would it matter if he kept his personal life private??

Sorry I missed your post earlier :(

Another celiac :) I was the only one with the obvious symptoms but it explained alot with my daughters infrequent yeast infections and her temper tantrums. We did go gluten free for the household when she came up positive and I was getting glutened all the time from cross contamination. My husband ( he would kill me if he knew I typed this) farted all the time and was just so gassy over the past few years and it went away but whenever he has gluten the farts are back for the night. We are partly irish and scottish and that seemed to be the side for all the family health issues related to it.

Im still trying to convince my parents to try gluten free for awhile and see if they will feel better. My mom does but my dad is stubborn but she is slowly working on him since obviously we get the gene from at least one of them. I had horrible arthritis in my knees and was taking 600 mgs of motrin a day for two years. After being gluten free for a month it is completely gone even when it rains it doesnt bother me anymore. Its amazing how much a little food can do so much damage to your body that you just begin to think its normal to feel that way. Do you belong to celiac.com board? I find alot of my favorite recipes on there. I love annalise roberts baking cookbooks too. Her coconut cake is sooo good!

Pm me if you want to talk about it or pass on any good recipes :)

I just read Jett has asthma. If he is on steroids that would be a very common problem to have weight gain. I gained weight and had an almost impossible time getting it off till I went off the medicines. Honestly on prednisone I gained 32 lbs in less than 2 months. I contacted my dr and he said it was normal. Very frustrating but normal.

I thought that Scientologists weren't allowed to take conventional medicine. If so, I doubt that he is on steroids.

Travolta converted into scientology in 1975. He did seek hospital care for his son when his son was 15 months old. Im not completely familiar with scientology but they may have since they went out of the religion and sought treatment before for their son..

Some say religion... some say cult... some say there is a fine line between the 2... some say they are one and the same.

My take on Scientology: L Ron Hubbard made it up just to see how many people would fall for it... and probably went to his grave laughing his tail off at how much money he made out off of his made-up culture. Got to keep in mind he was a science fiction writer long before he came up with Scientology.

I'm all for natural remedies, but what else besides conventional medicine is there for asthma?
(I'd really like to know, my 2 year old has asthma)
I can't imagine not having my son's medicine, he would be in the ER every week like he used to be.

Seems more and more celebrities are getting into scientology now. How are they recruiting people?

I think that it is psychiatric care and psychiatric medicines that they do not believe in? I seem to remember hearing that some Scientologists are medical doctors. I thought that this was their problem with autism since it is a mental health diagnosis not a medical one and why they would find a medical diagnosis to cover up autism if they thought he might have it. Of course since Scientology attributes some physical illness as psychiatric problems :waitasec: ...er, who knows?

Scientology seems like such a cult. I can not understand why people would buy (literally) into that craziness.

Some Christians believe you should not seek outside medical attention. But many go outside of these teachings and do so. I wonder if Scientology is the same - people choose some of the teachings and reject others.

I am sure that almost all religions have members like that.
I have known people claiming to be Jehovah Witness's who still celebrated Christmas and birthdays.

It would probably depend on what was causing the asthma problems if a trigger has been found that is controllable. My problems I have found are helped with a scarf over my nose and mouth when Im out in the cold. I do not overexert when Im exercising and stick to walking. I also ingest local honey which helps quite a bit. I use elderberry jelly three times a week to help prevent colds and flus which aggravate my asthma (look this up before you take it on pubmed articles since its a questionable one for children).

I also found out I have a serious mold allergy and even react to berries, melons, grapes, tomato juices and any other juice or pop or food that has eaten after 24 hours of being prepared. I do have an inhaler though but I havent used it in over a year. But I have *outgrown* (or at least that is what the dr's say) my asthma. It was much worse when I was growing up and I had to have medicine always with me. When I bring berries home I scrub them with baking soda and a brush to get all the junk off it and put them in the refridgerator since its suppose to help slow down yeast production. I also cant eat breads (except quick breads) or vinegar.

My friend's mother taught at a very expensive, very good special needs school in our city. Another friend's son attends there now.

There are many celebrities and very wealthy people who have their children there and it is absolutely kept very hush-hush. It was once considered a sign of moral weakness to have a disabled or mentally ill child. Now it is just considered to many people, to be a sign of bad parenting.

And there have always been women who turn a blind eye to their husband's affairs or other "issues..." as long as they are living the life they want, they are quite happy.

Exactly - that's the type of thing I was thinking about - or Catholics who take birth control pills.
