My mom lives in Miami and she called me early yesterday morning to tell me that the press was already starting to cover the case more closely. This should be interesting.

Snipped from the article:

"In January 2007, four months before he bought a $670,000 waterfront home in a country-club community, Baez was held in contempt of court for failing to pay $4,000 in child support, according to Miami-Dade Clerk of Court records."

$670,000 waterfront home in a country-club community, and he REFUSES (because he was held in contempt) to pay $4,000 in child support. This is a slap in the face to his child and all other single mothers out there struggling to get by without support. I'm glad this news came out and that it's following him! :furious: IMO he seems to have no regard for children. :loser: JMO

By announcing where he wants to head did he NOT think that the press in that area would cover the case more closely now? Seriously?

I seriously think he'll have issue getting a COV on based on his motion when he is the cause for most of the press in the case.

I'm glad to hear that... I think that no matter where they move the trial (if they do indeed move it) there is going to be very close coverage and scrutiny of all involved. Perhaps JB should be careful what he wishes for.

ITA, Judge Strickland will be the ordering Judge right? IMO a COV will come hard. I just don't see the judge giving in very easily to JB after all that has transpired.

In a way it would be fun to write a parody to "on the road again, just can't wait to get on the road again" (I think it has been a long week already:crazy:)

In refusing to be interviewed, Baez issued a statement chiding The Orlando Sentinel for writing about him. Commenting on recent coverage, it said: ``Your discrimination against a young, hard-working Hispanic lawyer who represents a high-profile client borders on racism. I wonder what reactions this profile on a prominent Hispanic lawyer will have on your readership.''

What is he trying to do by claiming "racism"?
The fact that he is Hispanic has only been brought up by him.
It has nothing to do with his ability or inability to handle this case.
He is not qualified by the state of FL to head the defense of a death penalty case - it has nothing to do with discrimination.

Maybe he'll say this is also an example of "ugly coping"? His logic isn't logical at all! If you're going to try to use the race card to help your case-don't take your anglo client who is trying to blame an innocent hispanic woman to Miami!! Jose-I think you are insulting everyone's intelligence!!:hand:

Sure is up to Strickland! I hope he shoves the fact that JB fought against the gag order and adds in the press junkets JB has done in his face.

(It totally has been a long week already)

My sentiments exactly....

Snipped from article:

"When Anthony picked Baez to defend her -- based on the recommendation of someone she met in jail, according to her mother (I smell dookie, do you smell dookie?) -- he took on a case that has attracted attention around the world." (He sure did, didn't he?!! and now he's crying about it!! :boohoo:

Racial Discrimination???

IMHO He should not use the Race Card in this case since his client, a young white female, accused (an allegedly) 1/2 Puerto Rican 1/2 Black woman of kidnapping a young white female child, who ended up murdered.

This brings up a question I've had for a while. Is the judge either ethically or legally unable to read, watch on tv, coverage of this (or any) case. I know the jury is instructed to avoid press on a case but not sure about the judge. Think about it, the press knew about the COV order before it was filed (yes, we all knew it was coming including the judge, it was addressed once in court), and now they are picking up the press coverage in Miami. It makes me wonder if this is something the judge can take into consideration since I know the judge need to be fair and unbiased.

The judge sees all the evidence, since he's the one who rules whether evidence is too prejudicial to be entered in at trial. I don't think the judge gives a rat's tookie what the press has to say about things.

It has everything to do with JB-he thinks it's all about him!! NOBODY brought up race-HE did!! I tend to think it's something he and GR thought up while crusing. This is all about distraction from the evidence! They want us to pay attention to the clowns-not what's happening in the center ring!
But, JB prolly thinks Miami will love him and since it's a party town-KC's "ugly coping" will be understood.:banghead:
