Jose was last seen at about noon on August 12, 2006 in Glendale, Arizona. He was in the parking lot of his apartment complex with his pregnant girlfriend working on his car at the time. Four unidentified Hispanic males approached them and assaulted Jose at gunpoint. They then forced him into his own car and drove away. His vehicle was later found abandoned with its interior set on fire. The suspects have never been identified and Jose has never been found.
