Joseph's nickname is Joey. He has a brown birthmark on the back of his thigh.
Joseph and his 16-year-old friend Christopher Jeda were dropped off by Christopher's parents for an overnight camping trip in the South Point area near Alpena, Michigan on September 3, 1983. The next day, when Christopher's parents arrived at the campsite to pick them up, they found it deserted with their clothing left behind.
On September 19, Christopher's body was found floating near North Point. Joseph was never located despite an extensive search. Authorities believe both boys drowned while trying to swim to an offshore island.
