Josh allegedly visits strip club after wife disappearance?

  • #221
Saturday, December 5, 2009: The Powell family attended a church Christmas breakfast from about 9 a.m. to noon. Susan then went to work and JoVonna Owings, a friend of Susan's, took care of the children while Susan worked.

Later that evening, around 7 p.m., JoVonna's son went to the Powell home to care for their two young children, Charlie, 4 at the time, and Braden, 2 at the time, while their parents attended Josh's company Christmas party. Josh and Susan returned home at about 10 p.m.

Excellent article OK5. Thank you so much. I didn't remember reading about them going to Josh's Christmas party on Dec 5th. I would love to hear what observations were made about Josh and Susan that night - if any. (Sometimes it's really obvious when a couple is fighting without them saying a word.)
The company Christmas Party was news to me, too, and I know that they can create problems for couples for many reasons. Since this was one of the last venues where the couple was seen interacting in public, I'm surprised it hasn't brought out some comments. It's possible the final argument started on the drive home from it, in fact.

I believe that only applies to medical personnel. I could legally tell you what meds my husband takes! If Josh's sister knows if he takes meds, there is no law that prevents her from saying. His doctor is a different story.

Yes, I was in hurry that night. I should have taken time to clarify that I was referring to any locals who might have such information BECAUSE they work in the healthcare field. If they "forget" their responsibility due to the circumstances and the perceived anonymity of the forum environment, they could find themselves with lawsuits or stiff federal fines. I have seen such "leaks" in article comments on other sites related to other cases.

Thanks, G-a-b, for posting the HIPAA info as a reminder to all. Much appreciated.

This doesn't mean that he isn't bipolar as well.
He doesn't exhibit signs/symptoms of bipolar. He does with personality disorders, both narcissistic and antisocial (psychopathy). It's also very common in abusive men to have personality disorders and shades of one or two of them but not bipolar nor schizophrenia.

I'm very surprised you say this. He definitely shows signs of schizophrenia that are familiar to me, and bipolar and schizophrenia are known to be genetically linked. I looked it up. Here's one of thousands of mentions.

I don't know anyone with bi-polar symptoms...but I do know an abusive/narcisstic/antisocial person...he has destroyed our family. I see so many things that Josh does and just cringe. I also see that Susan was a people pleaser just like my sister. A dangerous combination in my opinion.

I beg to differ with you that abusive men don't have schizophrenia. I had a boyfriend when I was 19 who I didn't know had been discharged from the Navy for having schizophrenia. He raped me, impregnated me, kicked me in the stomach when I was five months pregnant and made me have a miscarriage, he tore of my halter top and threw me out of his van onto the side of the road topless, drove off then came back, grabbed me, threw me in the back of his van and pulled my hair and hit me on the head, held me hostage with a loaded rifle for two days, strangled me, smothered me, held me upside down in front of a bunch of his friends and shook me while saying what a worthless person I was, wouldn't let me look at any guy when we were driving or he'd become enraged, stalked me, broke into my house, and on and on and on and on.

I don't think she was saying that schizophrenias can't be abusive. I know that they can be very violent. I think what she was saying that Josh shows signs of anti soical personality disorder...and someone said that he was bi -polar...not sure of that..

And I am soooo sorry that happened to you...

I am so sorry to hear you went through such a horrific experience. I am certainly glad you survived to tell the tale. I imagine most of the people who gather here have had trauma of some sort. What happened afterwards? Did he go to jail? Where is he now?

As far as Josh, I think he definitely shows signs of bi-polar. He gets into his high, manic state where he is excited about (another) new career. He spends irrational amounts of money on equipment and supplies (refrigerator magnets) and then goes into a low cycle where nothing is going right and he feels he needs to jettison that which is causing all the problems (Susan). He was probably on a low cycle until he made his "plan" and was riding high for 24-48 hours just before, during, and after he killed her. I bet he is on a really severe low right now. What will he jettison to fix it this time?

I'm 52 years old. That happened when I was 19. I had to secretly leave town and never come back. He was strangling me when I was about to leave and a cop came and arrested him because he had an outstanding warrant. I could NOT stay in town and left immediately. For over a year, he would check my parents mail box every day, hide in the bushes, wait around the corner in a car for me to drive by, etc.

I think Josh's latest expression was to build the http://susanpowell.org web site and it wouldn't surprise me if he was on a manic high when he did it. It took anger and more drive than he normally has to accomplish that or he would have made it months ago.

Tim Peterson said Josh was a wreck when he came to his house right after he rented the car (PROBABLY ANOTHER MANIC EPISODE), so much so that he couldn't even tie his own shoes (the depressed side of the mainic/depressant cycle).

Seriously, what person goes out and pays to rent a car when they have no job and know full well there will be no income from their dead wife? He could have borrowed a car or waited to get the van back.

I think a case could be made for Josh being bipolar based on the information below.

Signs and symptoms of mania
In the manic phase of bipolar disorder, feelings of heightened energy, creativity, and euphoria are common. People experiencing a manic episode often talk a mile a minute, sleep very little, and are hyperactive. They may also feel like they’re all-powerful, invincible, or destined for greatness.

But while mania feels good at first, it has a tendency to spiral out of control. People often behave recklessly during a manic episode: gambling away savings, engaging in inappropriate sexual activity, or making foolish business investments, for example. They may also become angry, irritable, and aggressive–picking fights, lashing out when others don’t go along with their plans, and blaming anyone who criticizes their behavior. Some people even become delusional or start hearing voices.

Hypomania symptoms
Hypomania is a less severe form of mania. People in a hypomanic state feel euphoric, energetic, and productive, but they are able to carry on with their day-to-day lives and they never lose touch with reality. To others, it may seem as if people with hypomania are merely in an unusually good mood. However, hypomania can result in bad decisions that harm relationships, careers, and reputations. In addition, hypomania often escalates to full-blown mania or is followed by a major depressive episode.
Common signs and symptoms of mania include:

Feeling unusually “high” and optimistic OR extremely irritable
Unrealistic, grandiose beliefs about one’s abilities or powers
Sleeping very little, but feeling extremely energetic
Talking so rapidly that others can’t keep up
Racing thoughts; jumping quickly from one idea to the next
Highly distractible, unable to concentrate
Impaired judgment and impulsiveness
Acting recklessly without thinking about the consequences
Delusions and hallucinations (in severe cases)

Signs and symptoms of bipolar depression
In the past, bipolar depression was lumped in with regular depression. But a growing body of research suggests that there are significant differences between the two, especially when it comes to recommended treatments. Most people with bipolar depression are not helped by antidepressants. In fact, there is a risk that antidepressants can make bipolar disorder worse–triggering mania or hypomania, causing rapid cycling between mood states, or interfering with other mood stabilizing drugs.

Despite many similarities, certain symptoms are more common in bipolar depression than in regular depression. For example, bipolar depression is more likely to involve irritability, guilt, unpredictable mood swings, and feelings of restlessness. People with bipolar depression also tend to move and speak slowly, sleep a lot, and gain weight. In addition, they are more likely to develop psychotic depression–a condition in which they’ve lost contact with reality–and to experience major disability in work and social functioning.

oh pickie...i am so sorry.

i think there is a fine line (and maybe not all that important a distinction) to find an exact diagnosis for these creeps.

my ex could've been josh's twin brother. it wasn't until i left him and the judge ordered psychiatric testing that i finally felt validated. after rall of the years of "gas lighting and crazy making" it finally had a name. in my case it was malignant narcissism...and he was off the charts!

imo, i think we can all agree that josh is sick. and his family of origin is very sick.

so no matter how we label his sickness, it holds the key to the mystery of where we can find susan.

Pickie that is absolutely horrendous. It's good to see that you've dealt with it well enough to be able to talk about it. My sister had a stalker but I never found out til after he committed suicide and she's never gone into detail about the things he did. I think she never told me because, even though she lives in PA, I would have gone down and taken a baseball bat to the guy. Just to deliver a subtle message about leaving her alone. :innocent:

He doesn't exhibit signs/symptoms of bipolar. He does with personality disorders, both narcissistic and antisocial (psychopathy). It's also very common in abusive men to have personality disorders and shades of one or two of them but not bipolar nor schizophrenia.

I have bi-polar disorder (controlled by meds now) and before the meds I never abused, physically or mentally, any of my girlfriends or friends. Bi-polar isn't the reason someone acts like a major :censored:

I want to be a writer and in my manic stage I'd write, what I thought was, a brilliant piece and then in my depressive stage I'd delete it because I was sure it sucked. Now that my BP disorder is controlled I don't feel that I have the creativity any more.

Also, I was quick to anger, it happened very little, and I would just go off on a shouting fit about something that P.O.'d me, it was never physical or physically threatening. I probably had about 4 of those instances since I was 18, as I said not very often.

My disorder manifested itself 99.9% of the time in making me depressed. It still does. The manic phase seems to be controlled, the depressive stage not so much. I've heard it said that depression is anger turned inward so that might explain things a little better. Recently I've been focusing on the things I've done that came out badly. Even though my intentions were good I somehow :censored: things up. I'm much harder on myself than other people. I have also been generous to a fault that's caused me financial problems.

I know others with MD disorder and none of them have behaved like Josh either.

I don't know anyone with bi-polar symptoms...but I do know an abusive/narcisstic/antisocial person...he has destroyed our family. I see so many things that Josh does and just cringe. I also see that Susan was a people pleaser just like my sister. A dangerous combination in my opinion.

I think the sickos like Josh prey on the kind people. They use their kindness and then guilt them into believing they are being unkind instead of the manipulator. It's an evil thing to do.

That must have been a big time relief. If you don't mind my asking, was anyone in your or his family sticking up for him before that? If so what did they say after the diagnoses?

I have studied bipolar people and schizophrenic people, and I do think Josh has both of these problems. The bipolar are messed up but warm and charming in their need to be liked. Many very successful people are bipolar. They run major companies, according to one book I have read.

The schizophrenics are seriously more broken, and every single one of them in a large extended family has ended up tangling with the police at some point and can't keep a job much less a career. One was trying to pull the (offending, he thought) stop sign out of the ground when he was arrested and hauled off to the loony bin one time. They can't handle stress, and they harbor anger and rage and are cruel. They are anti-social.

One wouldn't let his wife touch his computer and it turned out he was selling 🤬🤬🤬🤬. His oldest daughter is married but the other two adult children live with him and his wife, who is the only one in the family that works.

They all continue throughout their lives to get into trouble because they can't stay on their meds, even when court ordered. It's part of the illness.

I agree with you Foxy that there is a sickness Josh has, and it seems to exist in the family--beyond just dysfunctional. Unfortunately, if there are any sane individuals living among them, I'm sure they would have to be affected in some way also. I'm sure if and when Josh is arrested, the judge will order psychiatric testing be done on Josh. I don't think any of us can arm chair diagnose, but I would venture to guess it would take years of therapy for Josh to see any light.

One of Susan's confidants, who wishes to remain anonymous, is reporting Susan Powell told them Josh did NOT like to have sex because of the germs and that Susan had to beg him to make love to her.

This anonymous confident has also stated they were never told by Susan that Josh was interested in 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 or that he looked at it on the computer.

Because of this, this individual does not believe it could have been Josh Powell who visited the strip club.
LOL My Gaydar's back up. That strip club had the bouncer that wore the most makeup of anybody in the place, IIRC

OK. Seriously? Just kidding. But he reminds me an awful lot of someone in my own family who is married and his wife gets no satisfaction. I couldn't get away fast enough when this man was running down homosexuals right in front of his best friend of thirty years, who's an out gay. I got away and the rest I don't want to know.

Well, that certainly is revealing. My gaydar is pinging and ponging too. Either that, or he is into kids.

Actually, it looks like he doesn't really want to touch her at all. You know, girl cooties and all that. He is probably doing the minimum that will fulfill the wishes of the photographer.

I bet he made everyone wash their feet in Pine-Sol before he let them into the house after those photos were taken.

Did you know getting improperly diluted Pine-Sol on your skin will burn it BAD?
How do I know this? I visited a lady who had a litter of kittens who were very sick. Upon examining them, I determined they had ear mites so bad their ears were totally plugged up and spent several hours cleaning out their ears. The following day, I had 13 ring worm patches on me, including three on my face! I sprayed the patches with Lysol which made them stop itching and start to dry up. When that ran out, I made the mistake of putting straight Lysol on them which resulted in severe burns to not only the infected areas but the surrounding skin. Yes, the ring worm went away.
Could the "wind burn" on Josh's hands been from using undiluted Pine-Sol?

EEeeeew! Both the ringworms and placing Lysol or Pine-Sol directly on your skin, but good to know. Did it kill the ring worm? I know we all have some parasites, but I've watched that show "Eaten Alive" and either have to turn the channel or start scratching. There was one guy who had a worm right above his bellybutton, burrowed in and out....he kept it there and named it George til he started having bad reactions. Can you imagine?
I would imagine both could burn the skin, but they are very toxic if ingested...I think Pine-Sol would affect the nervous system, don't know about Lysol...except I can't stand the smell of it. I would think the house or van would reek if either was used undiluted. God forbid if the kids were exposed to that.

It makes a lot of sense that he's either gay and closeted to himself, or gay and on the down low. I think the first one is likely - that is, he can't come clean to himself. He may even have been molested as a child, which would be one explanation of his lack of interest in touching anyone and his freakishness about cleanliness.

I think his father has these issues as well. When I saw his pictures for the first time, before I read this post about Josh, that was my first reaction - the rigidity of his bearing, his lack of confidence in his body. You can't see this guy making love to a woman. When men who are homophobic about themselves hook up with women, and then the women don't turn them on, they take it out on the women. Because it must be HER fault.
