Thanks -- (OT) there really should be a thread on him here. It's very suspicious that neither Howard, Marion, Richie, or Joanie have ever reported him missing, even though nobody's heard from him in about 40 years.

Ha ha, all I remember about ole Chuck is that he was kind of a meathead who was always dribbling a basketball and eating something.

Am I the only one who is relieved that Joshie's rough sex is with adult women and not little girls?

The saddest part about all of this to me is that "the power of forgiveness" is STILL being heralded as a bigger take-away than "how to prevent these behaviors and help those who've been affected." There were warning signs, there had to have been, IMO (the objectively unhealthy repressive environment notwithstanding) — but rather than helping people deal with similar cases, it's been more important for the Duggars to feign shock and disappointment (and overcome that and grow stronger, yadda yadda). And gender segregate the children from now on, to be safe.

Also, I struggle to name a single developing nation that would benefit from yet another privileged white missionary, especially one that is being followed by a camera crew and instagramming the amazing work she is doing for these poor, unsaved souls, by posing for photos with groups of their children. Imagine them benefitting mankind in a way they can't show, profit from, or tell anyone about — the horror, the horror!

(I'll concede the family and/or network is probably donating resources to whatever communities they visit, but I'm still grouchy and for now assume the greatest treasure here is redemption in the form of continued exposure.)

No, I am relived as well. And a little sickened that the extended family is speaking out against him now that there are reports of his having consensual sex with an unrelated adult, yet were very quiet when the allegations of abuse of his sisters came out.

I was thinking of how Josh is reasonably high profile, how did he expect not to get caught eventually...then I started to wonder whether (even subconsciously) getting caught could be a out for him!

If his family wiped their hands of him and his wife left he would be free, without the quiverfull brainwashing and dozens of mouths to feed.

I know it's easy to say he is a man and could stand against his family but look the marriage was pretty much arranged and hastily. In my own family my father in law was a minister who was very domineering and controlling, would rant and give sermons at family gatherings, only two of the four in the family married, two never left home!

It can be extremely difficult to escape (mentally) such a person as Jim Bob. Josh needs serious professional help (years probably) if not and if his wife "forgives" him it will only be a matter of time for the cycle to begin again IMO.

This is the eldest child so as the others leave the nest the Duggar patriarch must be worried what will happen when "the penny drops" that they have lived in a cult with controlling, domineering leaders/parents!

That makes some sense, but I'm not entirely convinced when I consider that he was relatively young when he started molesting his sisters. As well, seeing how he faced such minimal consequences for molesting his sisters, I have to wonder if he thought that his actions were without consequences. But this is not to say that I don't think that what you've suggested is possible.

If the AshleyMadison HACK had not happened, no one would know to this day. That ( to my understanding) was the lure of that site . It was secure and no one would know. However, I would imagine that any of the two parties involved in an affair could have spilled the beans at some point.

However I REALLY cannot see Anna getting tested.
I'm sure God will protect her from any STD's.

She's lucky she hasn't apparently passed any on to the kids.
I'm guessing she declined any testing while pregnant and the eye ointment after birth.

They don't shun doctors but they don't go seeking them out a lot, either. Basically use them only when necessary. I think Josh thought he would get away with the stars because he had gotten away with so much since he was at least 14. And in the family, it was kept quiet. It didn't occur to him that outsiders might talk - in his mind it would be shameful for those women to admit sex outside marriage, with a married man. But he wasn't taking into account that they're grown women, unashamed of their choices, and not mentally abused into submission from birth!!!
