I’m sure the prisoner-to-visitor transfer is easy. Getting it to a facility in time would be the issue, IMO, though there’s always DIY IUI. (I think this is enough Internet for me for today).

In hippy days, a turkey baster was said to be good for this, but urban myth…
I just can’t see any of these options. And maybe Josh didn’t want kids? They were side effects? That’s an awful thought, but what evidence is there that he was into his kids? Does he rough-house, play ball, take them fishing? Read bedtime stories? Go for ice cream?

It is not that hard to do. They are allowed a "chaste" kiss during visits.

Everything I've read, looking at prisons JD may end up, have modified visitation standards due to Covid. At this time, visitations are no contact. Each facility has it's own statement. So, yes, I could have missed one that would allow a hug and kiss. I didn't read them all.

Believe me, if you want things transferred in or out of a prison, unless it is "Super Max", it can be done. Jail is harder, because visits are on phone between Plexiglass.

As for the freezing of sperm idea, I have no idea if their religion permits it or whether they would do it anyway, but remember that Josh was on "home detention" at the Rebers' home for months prior to the trial. If they wanted to freeze sperm in case of a guilty verdict, they would have had plenty of opportunity to do so before he was taken into custody. Of course, he seemed to smugly assume he'd be found not guilty, so who knows if he would be thinking ahead in that way...

And I agree with those who suspect Josh didn't really want such a huge family all along -- I think the desire for constant babies is Anna's and Josh was just going along.

Just sayin'. "Constant babies" may be a matter of not believing in birth control vs. a "wish to have a lot of kids". This might very easily put the origins of the desire for a large family on Josh, not his wife.

This is why I glumly proposed the kids were a "side effect" of Josh's needs and wishes. Anna's wishes/needs might be irrelevant here. Or not.

Anna was just continuing her dream of a large family, having a baby every two years. Oblivious to the fact that her husband was going to be convicted and sent to federal prison. Otherwise, why would anyone have a child, on purpose, knowing that her husband was going to be gone?

Imagine feeding 9 people 3 meals a day. Add in all the essential non-food items and costs get astronomical.

Financially she is better off with the Duggars. Apparently free housing and LCC's in her name. Imagine all the money saved on rent/mortgage payments. Could be saving $20,000 a year.

Maybe she didn’t have a choice? Maybe she wasn’t the decider?
I don’t think it can be assumed that having all those babies was her choice or that she could have said no. She could potentially have had zero role except to comply with Josh’s demands.

And IMO people have different ideas about why babies get showered on them. For instance, some think it’s a god’s doing. This idea can go so far as immaculate conception. There are also family situations where people (women especially, but not exclusively) have to yield to a partner, no questions. And then there’s, “We don’t believe in birth control”. That might sound like a choice, but for many it’s not.
