Joshua was last seen in Mount Vernon, Washington on the afternoon of July 7, 2007. He and a 16-year-old friend floated their boat down Pressentine Creek, which feeds into the Skagit River. While they were getting out of the boat, it overturned and sank. Joshua got tangled in the boat line and was dragged under water in spite of his friend's attempts to help him. Witnesses rescued Joshua's friend, but even after an extensive search Joshua was never found. He is presumed drowned.
