Kara -- Mom of Lindsey's friend

  • #21
Kampen moved to town in January from Arizona, and practically from the moment her daughter Michaela met Lindsey, they were fast friends. Brassy, sassy girls with big senses of humor, the two were practically “attached at the hip,” Kampen said.

In Arizona, no one let their kids outdoors, Kampen said. There was too much bad news. It was one of the reasons she moved to McCleary, for its wholesome atmosphere. It was a place where kids could be kids, she said.

Thank you.
I am just catching up with this thread and going over some already covered territory.

I did find a RSO in Pine Arizona with the same name as stepdad, probably a coincidence, but do we know if he moved here (I am in WA) with Kara?

 Quoted Steadfasts quote by Kampen, impatient, did you see that post? So, Lindsey's step dad is possible RSO in Arizona, where they moved from in January??

Has there been any mention of the family contacting the Carole Sund Foundation for help with looking for Lindsey?

Hi Christine, Wouldn't that be Michaela's step dad? It was the Kampen family who moved up from Az in Jan and not Lindsey's family. xox

You're right, it would be Michaela's stepdad (if it's the same guy.) Has anyone pursued this line of inquiry over on the RSO thread? Very interesting if it turned out Michaela's stepdad was an SO.

It sure would STEADFAST. From the beginning of the case he has been referred to as Kara's BF. That could be wrong, but do we know for sure they are married?

Also, have you ever heard LE use the term 'passed' in regards to a LD test? In Haleigh's case this came up and thought we learned they don't say that. xox

No, now that you mention it, I don't think they're married. Yet, you'll see in the linked quote below that the reporter refers to him as "stepfather." Also, he does have a very common name, so finding an RSO with that name might not be as significant as it would be if he had an unusual name.
This is what LE had to say about his polygraph:

“ Baum’s mother and the stepfather of the young girl Baum had been visiting just before she disappeared have both taken voluntary polygraph tests to aid the investigation.

They asked to be polygraphed so that we would be comfortable with what we were being told and we could move on to other things,” Scott [Undersheriff] said. “They did not want us to be wasting valuable time.”

Scott said he was “comfortable” with their answers."

So . . . I'm not sure what he means exactly by "comfortable."

OT-- There are too many people in this case named Scott!

I swear, we need a new system...Scott (first name) Scott (last name) Scott (father) that sort of thing.

There are way too many people that have the same or similar names in this case, Melissa seems to be popular too.

LOL It won't let me thank you. So the word 'passed' was not used by LE or quoted by Officer Scott. Velly Intellesting, eh? Would comfortable equate with passed? Not technically IMO. Was it Kara then that used that word passed? How deceptive, and interesting also that it was not corrected by LE even tho the Chief said yesterday they don't have a solid lead they are going on. That is tight to the vest!

"Comfortable" to me would mean that LE was satisfied with their answers so far. Although they do not say they "passed", I would take it that LE felt they were being cooperative in offering to take the test and at the time it was given...their answers didn't raise huge red flags.

It is a common name, but not common on the registries.
I did find it odd that the name came up in AZ of all places, but it could be a coincidence.

I have a couple of questions:

It isn't dark at 9:15?
Why did Kampen move to this particular town?

I can't answer the second question, but living in Seattle I can tell you that at 9:15pm it is often still quite light out, even at that hour. It's one of the reasons that living in the NW is so delightful in the summer, and almost makes the winters bearable.

With regards to another post, I cannot speak for McCleary, but it has been a fairly dry year in the NW as well. I seem to recall having read somewhere that tracking dogs have a more difficult time picking up scent on dry ground, but I am uncertain if that is the case.

"Kampen said she has replayed that Friday evening in her head over and over. So has her daughter, [MK], 10, who spent the day swimming with Lindsey. They walked together with [JB], 13, to the Kampen house. But halfway there, [MK] said they teased [JB], getting under his skin enough so he turned around and couldn’t walk back with Lindsey. That’s something he now regrets deeply, Kampen said.

“People are saying, ‘How could they let that girl walk by herself?’ ” Kampen said. “It was still bright out. And this isn’t a dangerous place. This is McCleary.”

Kampen sighed.

This is what I specifically wanted to bump but somehow it got omitted from the post. This is from the above link Steadfast posted.

Can someone tell me if the incident quoted below is the original "version" of the bike fight, or are there two different instances where JB left to walk home. No mention of fighting or a neighbor stepping in has me confused.

TIA

I know I am in the minority on this, but I still do not trust KK. She jumped into writing about this and then had differing versions of her 'truth'. I have never trusted anyone who cannot tell the truth the same way time after time. As I have often stated: The truth never changes. It just doesn't.

I will join you in the minority group on this issue. I also do not trust KK. There is just something that doesn't sit right with me about her. Can't pinpoint it but I think there is more to her story....

Is three company, or a crowd?

I just can't scratch KK off of my short list yet. She (or her daughter) saw Lindsey last, which is enough to make me look twice in her direction, but her chatty and changing account of that time seems a little...overanxious?..is that the right word? Not suspicious, exactly, but...curious.

She makes me nervous, somehow. Count me in.

Definitely still on the short list for me, too. If she hasn't done anything wrong, I'll be sorry for doubting her, but those hinky, changing details bother me.

Didn't I read that she recently posted on SM again? A couple of our members have met her in person...I'd like to know if they feel anything hinky about her.
